I just deleted a thread where a user was asking about where to watch a certain car show online for free.

We're a publishing company. Copyrights are important to us. If you're going to torrent TV shows or find sites that stream them illegally, use a search engine to find it. Don't bring it here.

Yep, now that it's on iTunes with barely any delay between British airing and American downloading, there is no reason not to buy it.

I saw that thread, and figured he meant perhaps the show's UK website or something. We're kinda naive here in Ohio you know.

That type of therad has also been known to bring a cease and decist email to the forum owner for allowing them, so don't blame you at all.

Now, if only they would release Initial D 5th stage here legally...

My favorite quote from "Flushed Away" " The booty is in the booty".

I never looked at it as piracy and have never considered that looking for a way to stream a TV show as anything except positive for the show as that gives them even more exposure.

So the DVR is or should be illegal?

I'm really confused now.

In reply to carguy123:

The way the tv show is "Brought to you" is via its "sponsors" who pay via advertisements......not to mention, I doubt these places that can stream the show(besides its originating website) have the authorization to do so.

Did that make sense?

If it's a certain popular British TV buddy show that airs on sunday nights, then no it has no adverts, it's payed for by the British Tax payers through their TV licence fees of £145.50 (That's over $220 USD) per year. YEs, you have to have a licence to have a TV in your house.

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_Corp._of_America_v._Universal_City_Studios,_Inc.

Private use is fair use, but when you give it to others its shady, when someone is making money through advertisements without the rightsholders getting their sayso and cut its illegal.

I didn't know that - I thought the iTunes versions were all the chopped-down, music-neutered US version. But you're right, they're about a week behind and full length. Good to know.

Yep, Top Gear is how the BBC bleeds off extra cash. Their budget is fixed so that they can remain independent of the government while still funded by the government. They stay safely below that budget and what's left goes into costly stunts on Top Gear, which can then review cars without worrying about advertising concerns (but still subject to Jeremy's EV hate, James' hardcore traditionalism and Richard's Porsche fanboyism).

So yes, Top Gear is brought to you by SOCIALISM!

They used to be (and I used to not buy them on iTunes), but now they're the real deal.

I'm afraid i don't understand the hubbub, when you can just watch all those episodes on the BBC website.... In good quality.

But no more legally than you can watch it on other streaming websites. The BBC stream is intended for the UK only and you have to purposefully circumvent that limitation.
