So I've been trying to sell my car on FB Marketplace with no luck. Is Craigslist still the choice of everyone around here? It's a whopping 5 dollars to sell on there, but I think it may be worth it. Does anyone have any other recommendations for where I can put this thing up for minimal cost?
I've bought and sold nearly all my cars on c-list. To me, the $5 charge is nominal. I haven't messed with FB marketplace yet , but I'm trying to avoid it as long as possible since I'm paranoid about big brother tracking my fb habits.

I am surprised. I don't think the problem is just FB.
The problem could be:
- The Car: just a hard car to sell? Is it a unique model? Some unique models will need national exposer to find a unique buyer. FB is not real good at national exposure unless you make additional moves to place the car onto Owners Group pages or other pages with a national draw.
- The Price: is the car priced at the high end of the market? FB (or CL) may not be good for attracting a buyer who will have to finance the purchase. It might be better to put a high priced car on Autotrader for the national exposure.
- The Ad: is it a quality ad? Does it unintentionally seem scammy of dis-genuine?
In a more direct answer... It's only $5. Yes, I think it's worth it.

I put quite a bit a detail into it and took many pictures, so I hope it doesn't appear scammy or strange. The car is a plain jane Scion tC with an automatic transmission, priced at the low end of KBB cost (3500$). I don't think it's exactly high end. Maybe it's time to move to Craigslist.
I would say that a Scion tC is a hard to sell car. The automatic makes it better. A manual version is even harder to sell.
What makes it hard to sell:
- kid car seat laws have been the death of 2 dr cars. Sure, sporty cars still sell but a Scion tC is really not a sporty car.
- anyone with a kid or a need for a kid will not even look at the car
- it is a low, car. so, anyone wanting the "high ride" of an SUV will not look at it.
A Scion tC is a great high school/college car. This means the sweet spot of your market is buyers less than 25 yrs old. FB is probably the best place for this car. Your buyer might be looking for a Camry and willing to settle on a cheaper Scion tC if they know a Scion tC even exists. I would be sure to hype in the ad that the Scion tC shares the same engine and transmission with the Camry, Rav4, Highlander, Matrix (08+) and the Scion xB (Gen2). These keywords might help you find a parent who is shopping for one of these boxes for their high school kid.

I recently went through this while selling my '84 C10. I paid the money to list on CL and my wife put it on FB Marketplace, but ultimately, parking it at the end of my driveway with a for sale sign is what sold it. It made me really question my methods, but YMMV.
I'd recommend putting the tC up here on the FREE GRM classified ads.
I see the Scion tC as a great value car. They are often priced so much lower than similar Camry. If looking for a commuter car they can be a good value. Sure, you loose rear doors but you gain the high functionality of a rear hatch.
As mentioned above, parking at the curb still works too. For this car, it would be great if you could get it parked near the local high school. Graduation present season is upon us and kids looking to spend graduation cash too. I think it will sell, it will just take a while to find a buyer or more so, to make a buyer aware of what a Scion tC really is.
Timing is very important as well. If you place adds at the appropriate time of year, the response is almost immediate and a greater number of responders. FB also keeps track of the number of people that have opened your listing.
I recently listed a 2013 Pontoon on both CL and FB. Two responses from FB in less than 2 hours and one from CL in just over 2 hours. Total responses was: FB - 7 and CL - 4. Sold to the first buyer.
I have never sold an item listed for that much $$. Buyers were telling me they had the cash in hand in their responses.

Wow....the old school method worked. Maybe I'll throw a for sale sign on it.

I didn't bother posting on GRM because I don't think the GRM crowd has interest in a 1) vanilla car 2) automatic car. Maybe I might....
In reply to RyanGreener :
I've sold 3 cars (all automatics) here on GRM. Mostly they were found by GRM'ers who were asked by commoners, "I need a new car, what should I buy?" This place is also filled with dad's who know a good value and a Scion tC can be a good value.
Either way, the ad will be worth at least as much as the ad costs you.

Ah okay, guess I'll get started then. Thanks!
