The plan is to go all three days and camp on the infield, so besides a tent and gear is there anything I should plan to bring and are there any other GRM'ers I can set up with? Is there anything I should know that I'm forgetting to ask?

If it rains, the red clay there will get on/in everything and it stains stuff, so keep that in mind. Also, there's not much shade along the fences or in common spectating areas - plan accordingly.
It's a great event. I always enjoy it.
The red clay advice means do not bring your best tennis shoes (since they will never be the same) but do bring something comfy 'cause you'll do a lot of walking /hiking.
Another pro tip, the showers near the camping are cold water only. Plan your shower time at the height of the day's heat.
Don't miss the sign-up for the free parade laps. Sure, they are low speed but they still give you a cool perspective of the track.
The are also "touring laps" which are more moderate speed but these have a cost to them and sell out quickly.
Thank you. More great advice. If I buy the super ticket for three days that includes infield parking do I need to buy the rv permit to camp there with a tent? Also will I need to buy or can I buy a pass for more access? Or is everything included already except for the laps? Regarding laps are they only available for purchase at the time? Or can that be pre purchased too? edit: would the vip access pass cover everything?
I did my due diligence and answered most of my own questions off of the hsr site. So...anyone else planning on going so far? I'll be making the trek from southwest Missouri. figure 675 miles. Ought to be able to make it in one go starting Thursday am. If not I'll grab a room along the way and be there friday am.
I emailed HSR this question days ago but never got a response. I bought the VIP access pass, since I plan to camp on the infield do I still need to buy the separate camping pass for 15 bucks? Also knowing that I will now have access to all the social events do I need to bring nicer clothes than the standard T-shirt and shorts combo to attend any of these functions?

Nope. It is a very casual event. The weather and terrain gods demand it, especially if you are camping.
Pro tip: when you are camping with your wife, never leave the bottom of your tent flap unzipped. The aforementioned gods will chuckle, gather clouds like that last scene in ghostbusters and fill it like a small pond while you are getting silly and oblivious at the other end of the track. Ask me how I know.
See you at turn 2. We all sort of gather around mongo at some point.

Also: Hang with Chuck Beck if you get a chance. One of my best Mitty memories.
Every year I say I'm going to the Mitty, but something always comes up. Hopefully 2015 will be different. The new skidpad competition adds more incentive to be there. I'd like to be a part of that. I don't camp, but I think I can rough it inside of a race track for three days. Are there any camping areas to avoid like the plague?

Seems like the spot we camp in inevitably ends up a berkeleying river...but it's also where the booze and food live, and if you have enough of the former, it's not so bad.
Speaking of food, how much should I bring or should I budget to bring money wise to make it through the weekend? I figure worst case I can head to the store up the road for provisions right?
Standard track fare. Hopefully Karl's taco stand will be there, as it's the best food there.
Stopping at the Publix(?) on the way in and grabbing some sandwiches & snacks for the cooler is never a bad idea though.
We always bring a cooler for drinks and another for food. I prefer to bring sandwich supplies and assemble at the track. Between that, various snacks, and the food for sale there we are pretty covered.
That said, I find myself jealous of those that have a portable grill. Cold stuff gets old after couple of days and we usually ride out in the mornings for a hot breakfast. There is a nearby Waffle House and a McDonalds that are good in a pinch.
