Yesterday, I responded to a Craigslist ad within two hours of it's posting. I doubt it's a scam because it's an obscure, non drivable car and if it were a scam, he'd have made it sound better. I asked some questions and sent my info. I didn't say so, but I have cash, a trailer and the day off, but he still hasn't responded. This is killing me.
Tick tock goes the clock.
Sometimes those guys never respond then you see the ad re-posted again months later. FTH?
Respond again, maybe this time with a text.
It is quite possible your email has gone into his spam folder, or, I always customize my headline (rather than use CL's default email heading) so as to distinguish myself for the other inquiries.
I've had people get back to me days after I responded in similar situations. Sometimes it's because the item sold and they're not responding to the remaining messages, and sometimes it's because they check their email once a week. Hopefully yours falls into the second camp.
I have to wonder if seller ratings would make Craigslist a better place. Similar to eBay, some basic info like other recent listings, buyer/seller feedback, etc. That would let you know if this is their first foray into CL, or potentially just a flake. Again, like eBay, you could erase all your history by creating a new account, so it's probably not worth the overhead for CL to store all of that information.
I had cash in hand to buy a Chevy Astro. It needed towed, and I had the truck lined up. They guy took days to respond, then gave me his parent's number. So I called and left messages, with no reply.
I finally gave up, but the ad re-posted the next weekend, so I tried again and again, no return calls. So I flagged it. If they refuse to return calls, texts and emails, something is amiss.

The only contact info is email through Craigslist.

Welcome to the world of Craigslist
Don't let is upset you you will never beat it.
Just keep trying
I've sent three emails through two different email accounts.
Seems to be par for the course out here, the response rate on email-only ads is rather small.
My guess is he did not list his phone number because he did not want to be bothered. He also likely listed a little used and little checked email address because he did not to be spammed.
Then they wonder why the item does not sell.
