Since this year is going to be an all-autocross year it got me wondering how well I might do if I were to put my Miata back to Challenge spec and late register. I took the autocross times from 2017, doubled them and then calculated points. I ignored the Georgia Tech times because I believe that car isn't returning for 2018. That left the bogie time (100 points) to the time set by my Miata and Ed Malle's Mustang (yes, we tied!). Then I added in the concourse scores from last year. In this theoretical 2018 Challenge the winner would be Kurt Hennard's Spitfire, up from 12th place in 2017 !

2nd would go to the ladies from Smith College in their Miata, 3rd would be Ed's Mustang, 4th Patrick's 240Z and 5th would have been me.

I'm not entering but will be there and I'm really looking forward to this year's event to see what happens now.

I gave some thought to pulling the bottle($395) and drag slicks($100) from the datsun budget and taking that $495 and getting stiffer springs and coming to win it all, but it’s still not the right financial decision

In reply to Patrick :

There are many poor personal financial decisions that would bump up finishing positions at this years challenge. How about a brand new set of A7s? Easily a $1000+ but would be free to the challenge budget and will improve times for both autocross courses by at minimum 1/2 second each.

I think you should enter. You're going anyhow and have a car. Might as well play right?

I thought about doing some upgrades and taking the Miata, but didn't find the idea of removing the nice new soft top appealing.

Put the new top in your budget as a required non performance-enhancing replacement maintenance part. Call it a day. Dare someone to protest you under the don't be a dick rule.cheeky
