The block on the right is a Buick.

How is that different from any other BOP engine? If you really really must use a Chevy transmission (700-R4, for example) then adapter plates exist and aren't as scrody as you may think since the dowels and bottom two bolts are shared between patterns.

A 700-R4 and 455 (any 455) in a midsize with high-3s gearing is silly fun.

200-4R works as well, as they came with BOP pattern bellhousing and silly gearing, and can actually be built pretty beefy, thanks to the Grand National guys. Like 1000-1200hp beefy. The biggest trick is getting the TV cable adjusted, that's the biggest killers of 200-4Rs

Find a BOP bellhousing and you can more than likely use the 3 speed stick already in there.

There's something Significantly Different about a GN 200-4R relative to a regular 200-4R. It was explained to me and to be honest I don't remember the details... something about the way the valve body or front pump is set up. There's a measure of "can't get there from here".

A GN box could probably withstand a very mild big-block but we've seen built boxes start to slip as low as 600ft-lb.

It's the servo pistons. But you can have the case bored out. And Art Carr can beef a regular 200-4R up pretty stout. There was a guy running a nitrous'd Pontiac 428 with a non-GN 200-4R that ran mid-to-low 10s. And nitrous is brutal on transmissions

If you're spending enough money to get a clean car, I think it's worth it to install an injected 350.

I would go one of 3 directions with that:

Buy flywheel and bell housing to keep stock trans with v8 you have.

Swap in Camaro 3800/manual transmission package.

Buy $5000 rebuilder Cadillac ATS and swap in everything from it you need to make the engine and transmission work. Bonus points if you get the turbo motor model.

Would depend on the year of the motor. If Corporate block (when GM went to using the same block across all GM platforms) then not difficult. If before that then it would be more difficult and Buick V8 fit somewhere between small block and big block Chevy. I learned this years ago when I had a K5 Blazer w/6-cyl and a trashed Buick Apollo with V8. Learned the V8 wouldn't swap without a lot of custom made parts like motor mounts.
A K5 blazer was never equipped with a non Chevrolet engine, the A/G platform was available at some point with every GM V8 produced from 1964 onwards besides Cadillac (Chevy, Buick, Olds, and Pontiac all had their own completely different engines well into the 70s).

Knew that, at least that's what I learned. Was attempting to use what I had available but found out it wouldn't work. Easily. Figured SBC is put in most anything, even across platform. Why not attempt to put another platform where a SBC would fit. Didn't work out. That's what I was trying to say. You were more complete and said it better.

Did some googling, it would appear that a Buick 350 will drop right into a G body with Buick 231 V6 mounts and frame brackets (mount pad to bellhousing distance is the same unlike the Chevy 90* V6s), it's a straight up R&R in a factory 231 car.

A word of warning.

If it has A/C, changing the passenger side, rear, spark plug, is a complete and absolute nightmare. I had a Malibu that never did get that plug replace in all the time I owned it.

That goes for the V6 and the V8 engines.

We'll, I see the mullet hauler is gone, but I would have been the odd man out with my suggestion. Because it was an oddball and a survivor, I would have said leave it as is, or some mild tuning of what it had already.

Nothing. 200/229 have a different firing order than 262.

I forget if the 200/229 are oddfire and the 262 isn't, or the 200/229 are true even-fire and the 262 isn't (for strength reasons the overlap is less so there is a 108/132? firing order split). But the nutshell is, you have to use a cam that matches your crankshaft.

remember this K.I.S.S. Obliviously you aren't the last S. I DO Have Experience with a 200r4 and like it better than a 700r4, as said they fit any Chevy and all BOP's. but if I had a buick 350 I would Already have the v6 on CL, but that one is gone. I like 70's El Camino's better but would love a G Body. gettin the T.V. cable right Takes about 2 minutes. Fear Not Get the other one If you Like It.
