I pulled a set of stainless steel Borla mufflers with polished tips from a car in the junkyard. They are dirty and have some minor scratching but no dents or damage. I want to clean them up for resale. Yard did not know what they had. I got them for the price of basically scrap. I could put them on my car as they are for an xtype but my mufflers are fine and I kind of like going stealth.
Any recommendations?
Compound and finish w/ a mag wheel polish like Mothers.
cotton/felt wheels and a drill. Get about 6" wheels. You'll notice some are stitched just in the center and some are stitched the whole way out. Get the ones stitched the whole way out. Get emory and tripoli rouges. Start with about an 2000 grit finish, so if they're rougher than that, sand with 2000. If they don't need to be sanded, I would recommend some 00 steel wool just to scrub off things like road tar or stone chips.
Chuck the felt wheel (some folks call it a mop) in the drill. Spin it up and load it with rouge. Polish away. Finish with the rouge, chuck up another mop, load it with tripoli, polish away.
After a little polishing, you'll notice the mops get kinda shiny. When that happens, reverse the drill and poke a flathead screwdriver into it perpendicularly for a few seconds. Reload with more rouge and keep going.

What I did was to left click on the pictures, that opened them in a different page, then right clicked for the standard hotlink procedure.
I'll kick in my 2 cents, Fine steel wool along with a product called P21S polishing soap. Used on my parents stainless exhaust tip and it looked brand new. Polishing soap
Thanks everyone. Got my weekend project all lined up now.
Before and after pictures sir!
aluminum foil is awesome if there is any surface rust.
