Any tips? Tricks?

Mine has some scratches, and slight tarnish spots. I don't see feel any real pitting.

Thanks

Get some chrome polish from the auto parts store, there are any number of brands. It may help the tarnish spots, but there's not much you can do about scratches.

I knew a guy with a '68 camaro. He had a stainless steel bumper. It looked like chrome. I asked how. He said "work." I walked back home.

How deep are the scratches? If they're only on the surface you can probably work them out, but if they're into the base metal you might be SOL. Super fine steel wool with WD40 as lubricant, followed by chrome polish, has worked for me in the past.

Polishing stainless, you can remove enough material to get below the scratch without damaging the finish, because its one homogenous material all the way down. Chrome plating is typically only a few thou thick, so you can't really do that before getting below the plating.
