Just cuz I love um. 429ci Cobra Jet

For 6-cylinder I'm torn between a Clifford performance modified slant-6, preferably the aluminum block one, and any AMC straight-6 built with the best of the parts bin through the years.

Does the ginormous GMC v-12 get a nod for torque?

Seriously... no one has mentioned it yet? ZL-1, that aluminum blocked Big Block 427 for the "no limits" V8.

For a six, I'd have to go with the Poncho OHC 230 inline 6.

That is a seriously unicorn engine. Twin Spark + Fuel injection says that it's a very odd ball one. and probably very powerful. The shape of the intake and the oil lines below the distributor kind of implies the oil driven supercharged version.

Specific output wise, "high" volume- I would put Alfa, Low volume- Lotus, Race volume- Cosworth. Some of the greatest 4 cyl engines ever.

I'm going to nominate the BMW M10 for some kind of 4-cyl honorable mention.

I just like it, though I don't think it could displace some of the earlier-mentioned engines from the top of the podium.

We're forgetting arguably the best budget gasoline I-6.....the ford 300ci came about in the 60's and went until the mid 90's.....

That is an inline 6 twinspark out of an Alfa 2600 GT Sprint circa somewhere around '62
