http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/19/report-pontiac-g8-sedan-wagon-and-ute-to-be-sold-in-austral/
It's sad enough that the dizzying, platform-sharing, don't-call-it-rebadging upcoming product extravaganza General Motors unveiled to the Twitterati and media last week did not include the terms Zeta, Pontiac, G8, or any derivative thereof, but if a new report out of Australia is accurate, Holden is about to pour salt in America's wound – with an iodine chaser. Carsales.com.au claims to have an internal Holden memo stating that our friends Down Under will not only be able to purchase a Pontiac G8 SS-V sedan, but Wagon and Ute variants as well. (SS-V is the equivalent trim level to the U.S.-market G8 GT.)
These final Pontiac G8s will reportedly be offered through Holden dealerships (natch) as special limited-edition models. The reason? Simple: a final run of G8s made specifically for the Aussies will allow Holden to clean out some of the remaining Pontiac G8 part stock it currently has sitting around with nowhere to go. Dealer sources told Carsales.com.au that they expect the total run to be in the neighborhood of 1,500 cars, with the breakdown split fairly evenly among the three body styles.
Pontiac G8: the car that didn't deserve to die, that no one wants to see die, and that, so far, refuses to die quietly. Thanks to Stephen for the tip.
Can we replace the term "dumbass" with the term "Fritz" on the filters please? J/K
I think this simply means they're going to slap some G8 noses and badges on various Commodores. The latter is one of the top selling cars in Australia and it's not going anywhere.
Commodores have been a regular staple on Aussie roads since 78, so Keith is right, but will they be available here anytime soon, that is the real question

Damn I wanted one of those G8 Utes!
Just found this in Websters Dictionary.
FRITZ aka (dumbass) : lacking intelligence : stupid b : showing a lack of intelligence : requiring no intelligence : not having the capability to process data <a dumb terminal. ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/wink-18.png)
I don't see the dumbassness.
- Pontiac went out of business
- The G8 is a Pontiac
- There are spare parts
- The Commodore (aka the G8) is still for sale in Australia
Voila, a plan to use up all the extra badge-engineering parts left over from the G8. It's either that or have them sit in a warehouse for 30 years hoping the G8 owners have lots of accidents.
Unless the dumbassness is that the Chevy Commodore hasn't come into being.
dumbass move = not doing what gubment moters does best and make a cheby G8 that doesnt look like it was deprived of oxygen during birth

So does this mean all that bruhaha about the G8 coming back as the caprice was false?
I thought that the caprice SS police car based on the g8 was "confirmed?"
I have an Idea for Fritz.
Lose the actual Marques.
Make GM the marque and sell Corvettes, Commodores, CTS, Volts or whatever in every dealership.
hell yes!!! GM motorcars FTMFW. Dont know why they didnt do it in the 90s.
Heres the winning formula for GM:
- one nameplate(except allow caddy to live on - need to have a high end marque like Toyota/Lexus, Nissan/Infiniti etc)
- 8-12 models
- go factory direct
- become awesome again
Guess us Aussies are ahead of this game then,
All Ford products are badged as Fords
All GM products are bedges as Holdens
All Honda/Acura products are badged as Hondas
Seems to work out just fine downunder, of course the recession is still beating us into submission also

...and meanwhile they continue to churn out FWD Impalas. the dumbassness is in wasting a good platform that they sank a lot of money into developing, while continuing to try to sell inferior products.
