So what happens to the DP and Gt Grand Am efforts and others already started their season???
More like Chevy won't give them money. Pontiac had a huge racing budget (NHRA with Pro Stock and Warren Johnson and Jason Line and Greg Anderson; Grand Am/Rolex with the G6.R and formerly the GTO.R race cars not to mention the Pontiac Prototype racers; drifting with the GTO and now the Solstice; SCCA support program; etc, etc). I seriously doubt GM is going to keep all of those programs going, and it's a damn crying shame.
I was wondering about that.
the Drifting program ended last year. Rhys Millen is drifting a Hyundai this year.

or throw a BUICK badge on em!!!
I hope they can continue, it was good to see them competing and doing well. Maybe Chevy can pull some money out of Nascar to keep these guys going.
The prototypes aren't hard to change but since there is only a pontiac g6 coupe i don't know how they can keep that going unless they just call it the GM G6 or something. I haven't been able to see much of the series but that car really impressed me how well it did considering it doesn't seem like much as a street car.
The "G6" is a tube framed RWD race car (Pratt & Whitney?). Absolutely no relation to the production vehicle, like the "GTO" before it.

I stand corrected.

i would love to see buick in the winners circle.
Dashpot,
I know the G6.R is a full-tube race car, but I thought the GTO.R started life as a real GTO, hence why they sold them instead of re-bodying them as G6's.
Rusty Rabbit,
Never heard of the Grand National? GS? Buick's years of NASCAR victories? Miss our other Buick thread? They have a long history of motorsport (granted it pales in comparison to Pontiac).

Just another silhouette:

I have nothing but suspicion that the "G6" IS just a rebodied "GTO".
Dashpot,
I would have the suspicion as well, but they definitely sold all of the GTO.R's. I wouldn't be surprised if the tube chassis underneath both isn't very close or identical, but they for sure sold the GTO's off, so they're not "re-bodies" per say...
from a different site:
With the bodywork inspired by the Pontiac G6 GXP Street edition coupe, the GXP.R is the next step in the evolution of a successful racing program that began with the purpose-built GTO.R. The GTO.R was retired after winning the 2006 GT championship; the new GXP.R is built on the same winning foundation as the GTO.R.

but i really dont know

definately not Prat and Whitney, they make airplane engines. Pratt and Miller Engineering make the Chassis for the GXP.R, as well as the C6.R's in the ALMS...
Yes, the GXP.R is basically the same chassis as the GTO.R before it. Why start from scratch when you have a winning chassis to begin with. obviously improvements were made, but it is mostly the same with a different body.
