I fab'd up a nice aluminum oil pan baffle, replete with sexy little trap doors. The pan is aluminum too. My welder cannot run aluminum.

I have the Race Engine Builders Handbook here and these guys are using JB Weld to attach things to the block/pans. I can pop-rivet the baffle pieces to each other and JB it to the pan but I never see any one do that.

So... do I pay to have it welded or use epoxy & pop rivets?

There's also the aluminum soldering rods. I'd be inclined to try them.

Pop rivets would not worry me. They are capable of holding aircraft together, let alone the baffles inside an oil pan.

JBWeld, I'd like to like it more than I do. I've had it fail a few too many times to make me happy these days. Though honestly, if it does fail it's going to be stopped by the screen on the oil pump inlet.

JB weld inside a pan? I wouldn't do it.

JB weld was designed to repair engine blocks, I'd have no problem running it inside an oil pan. Just prep the surfaces thoroughly and let it set up for at least 48 hrs.

Chevy Citations were designed to get people from A to B. Doesn't mean it's the best way to do so.

I thought JB was crap until I went to replace the nozzle on my sandblaster. Years ago I used JB weld to reinstall a new nozzle when the threads had become stripped. I absolutely cannot get the old nozzle out.

(In my best Clint Eastwood) Do you fell lucky, punk? Well, do you? If was mine, I would make sure. Weld it.

I got the idea from a book on how to build a racing engine. They attached whole scavaging trays to the lifter valley with the stuff. They won stuff... although they take them apart every 501 miles whereas I'm going to run it until it explodes before I drop that pan again.

I dropped it off at a local welding shop over lunch.
