I have a 1984 porsche 944 track car. I have currently acquired a bunch of parts that I need to install including an Eaton M90 Supercharger from a T-Bird Supercoupe.

As if this wasn't enough I have become interested in attempting to make an air ride setup work for the track. (Thanks in part to the Stance BS thread)

My question is:

Do 944 front struts have the same mount on the bottom as a MK1 rabbit? or Mk2 Golf? Anybody have any idea or any way to check?

VW Air struts are readily available and already shorter, so it would be an easy install and give me a lower height.

Don't kill me.

  1. The supercharger idea is really cool and I have been going down that road for a really long while. BUT you will really need to go stand alone engine management. Lucky for you if you want to go MS I have done most of the work for you just surf on over to Clarks garage and look in the stand alone engine management sections and there you will see my thread about my trials and tribulations with that project.

  2. I don't know about the mounting in relation to a Rabbit but I do know that struts and spinals and how they mount are different even with in the various 924s / 944's / 951's so you a really are going to have to work with what you have and actually make the comparison.

On the non-turbo early 944's they are the same mounts as I've mounted a set of Rabbit struts on my 924 with both the 924 and 944 spindles.

Keep in mind that major changes in ride height with strut equipped suspension will result in changes to camber and toe, so do some testing to determine the proper height range to work in and adjust the bump steer out in that range.

Thanks for the replies.

I have already converted my 944 to the Rogue Tuning MAF. With this I can use 944 turbo injectors and have a custom chip burnt to run the fuel system using the MAF in a draw through config. I also have the Rogue data logger so I can do some dyno runs, he can analyze the data and burn me an even better tune. Check out his stuff, it's very slick.

Good to hear the rabbit struts will work. I will certainly factor in camber and toe changes. It looks like the rear will be the challenge, there is not much room for a bag over shock setup.

Yeah, it's a bit tight back there and there's some camber/toe changes there too.

Turboswede, what year struts did you use? You're talking MK1 rabbit correct?

Yeah, my Uncle had a set of double adjustables from Ground Control that he was running on his Omni (yes that worked too) that I bolted up to my 924 before taking them off because I needed to look at revalving them at something reasonable.

We had to create a bushing for the upper strut mount, but if you're running camber plates, just get the appropriate sized spherical bearing.

In reply to turboswede:

BTW, this might help provide options for strut/shock upgrades:

Good luck.

As to the blower bit:

Check the bottom of the page for their kits (expensive, but it might give you some ideas)

MegasquirtPNP is coming soon for 944S..... wish it was for the regular 944 because I would buy one now.

Thanks Turboswede, that is some great info. It looks like a set of AirStruts from an early Rabbit is the way to go.

Now I just have to find some to try, before I buy. That's the hard part.
