Well this weekend I was in SC for a benefit for a best friend of mine who is fighting cancer. The friend I was staying with is a car guy too. This guy calls and says he has a 2002 Porsche Boxster with a bad engine and ask if he wanted to buy it.My friend knows nothing about Porsches so he ask me you want to buy a Posche with a bad motor and I said lets go look. When I looked at the exhaust I knew it was not a blown motor and the oil seperator had gone bad(makes them smoke like a tar kettle).I tried to tell the guy but he said "I know its blow OK" so he says I want 1700 hundred for it.I bought the car and had it delivered to my buddies home till I can get the 123.00 dollar oil seperator to fix it.When I got it there we put a battery in the car and drove it up and down the road just to make sure it didn't have any skips or misfires in the motor and I was correct.Just had to share that with you guys, this is the second time I have bought a Porsche like this.WOOT!!
$2012 Challenge Boxster??!?!?!
Seriously! Kumho's are free, so mount up a new set of V710's!
Oh, and I'll give you $2000 for it! Seriously!
Thought about that but they would pull the bullE36 M3 card on it.lol. It wasn't advertised publicly so not sure if it would qualify.Plus I have my vette I would like to challenge this year for a second time due to it breaking last year.
No,I'm keeping it to autocross/track days.It already has street Kumhos on it.
Because it was so cheap, you must make awesome power with it. I demand, DEMAND I TELL YOU!, that you super or turbocharge it.
I await pictures and video
How about a 944 and $1500? Mrs. Javelin was jealous when I showed her this post and demanded a Boxster! You wouldn't let a buddy be in the dog house, would you?
Nice score! Knowledge is power. Friend of a friend scored a 944 15yrs ago for about that much, guy was sure the engine was dead..and all it needed was a fuel pump. I was as jealous then as I am now..
That is delicious. I'm going to back HiTempguy with more than a +1. Please involve a GT2876R, water/air I/C, and copious atmospheres of pressure and make that thing SING!. I'm going to have a Boxster someday, but they keep getting better looking, so I keep moving the yardstick. The M3 yardstick for me stopped at E36, so I've got one of those.
I'm jealouth. tho jealouth.
can't believe you got a $2k boxster that runs.

I like that you tried to tell him he was making a mountain out of a mole hill. Karma is on your side. When you are ready to pay it forward, let me know
I'm keeping it.I had one a couple years ago and have wanted to replace it for a while now.Its going to be fun to beat it up at the autocrosses.I would like to give it a little more power but to turbo it will cost $$$$.If any of you know how to increase the hp without the turbo I'm all ears.

K&N and a chip? Probably wouldn't add that much, but it'd be cheaper than a lot of other stuff.
Why can't I run across something like that???? This always happens to someone else.
Jealous. But congrats on the deal.
Drop in a 996 3.4 liter, they're cheap. Then supercharge it. :-)

Holy score dude! Personally I'd flip it and pocket the money for other stuff.

I would like to but these things are a electronic nightmare when you start changing engines.I thought about a 3.2 because it will drop right in and the ecm is compatible.Right now Im going to fix the oil seperator problem and flush the oil out of the exhaust and see how it does.I still haven't ruled out the challenge ether.
Gearhead,I thought the same for a moment but the parts for these boxsters are cheap because they have been in production sense 97 and have seen very few body and engine changes till resent.Parts are cheap and cars are getting cheaper. The big cost is the engines but if you know where to look there not that bad ether. The only draw back is you have to have a lift to work on them.
Even WITH a blown motor, 1700 is a steal. I typically see those around 6K with blown engines.
I'll give you 4000!

congrats! AWESOME price for a boxster! Wise decison to keep it.
Hell, I made a sight unseen offer of $2000 for a Boxster with a definitely bad engine. Sadly someone bought it for $4000 so I didn't get it. My plan was Subaru power eventually.
In reply to dculberson:Thats my plan if it ever does blow up on my clock.lol a WRX motor. That would be a good combination.
Can't believe no one has said it yet...
LSx!!!
