Porsche GT3 Raffle

If there was a raffle where you could win a 2010 GT3 with the following package, how many tickets might you buy, if they were $150 a ticket?

Depends how many tickets were sold, and what they were raising money for. I'm assuming that you need to sell at least a thousand to make back cost of the car.

Keep it under 1500 total tickets, and I might buy one. But I'm not a Porsche guy, and given the choice, I'd take a cash equivalent.

I would love it, but it is likely I'd also take the cash, buy a 930 and invest the rest

If only I had that kind of cash to drop on a raffel ticket, sounds fun

There's also the taxes to consider. I'd take the cash, pay off the taxes, and try to talk David out of his new 911 with the rest. At least that way, I'd still get a Porsche..

Is taking the cash an option? Sounds like you win the Porsche whether you like it or not.

Still, I'd flog the GT3, buy an old 911 and pocket the substantial remainder.

Also, $150 for a ticket sounds fair, depending how many are sold.

Approximately: None.

I'd be tempted on a $15 ticket (with 10,000 tickets sold) like the $20 tickets for the McDonald House 427 Corvettes. $150 is too much to throw away on anything less than a Ferrari.

1. I don't do raffles

2. $150 a ticket is way too much for this car

I've spent $100 on a raffle ticket for a Solstice (only 1000 tickets were being sold) but the raffle was put on by a charity that some of my relatives are very active in, so I looked at it more as a donation than a raffle - I didn't win. Is this GT3 raffle being put on by a charity or are you looking to get into the lottery business?

I did spend $100 for a shot at three days at Rally school, though. Other than that, I think $20 may have been my max for other auctions, but I'm sure that it was tough to get that out of my wallet, too.

I wouldn't. And you forgot reasons 4 and 5.

1: I don't gamble. Cost x Odds > Payout; always.

3: Let's say Cost x Odds = Payout, would I pay that much for the item in question? There is no car out there that would be worth $130k to me, because I don't have that kind of money. And if I did, my first choice would not be a Porsche.

4: If I did win a GT3, I don't think I'd be comfortable with it. I'm a firm believer in not tracking something you can't replace if you stuff it (this goes back to not have $130k to blow). If that car is not being tracked, it's not being used, and I would be too worried about hurting that car to properly track it. I would rather flog a beater mercilessly, than drive a GT3 timidly.

5: If I had a Porsche and did track it, there's no freaking way I could afford upkeep on it. You can buy a whole Miata for the cost of new brake rotors on that car. I can redo my whole suspension for the cost of tires on that thing.

I would not, for 2 reasons. I cant see spening more than at the most $20 on a raffle ticket, and 2, I would not be able to afford the tax on it if I won.

$15 to $20 is it was for something that I really wanted and a good cause as well.

Sure. But most raffles I buy the occasional ticket for, hat difference goes to a good cause. So it's not quite the same as wandering to the casino and plonking your money in the slot machine.

It would all depend on the number of tickets. I could be tempted with a higher price ticket if there aren't too many and the car is drool-worthy enough. And a GT3 qualifies.

I would pay that much for the ticket, but unfortunately, I could not afford the taxes on 130 grand.
