What's the best option for a power steering rack with rotten boots? Replace just the boots ($10), replace the rack ($200) OR rebuild the rack ($60) ? I'm a cheap sum' binch, but I hate doing something twice even more than I hate spending the green.

The rack itself has some play in it (I think an adjustor screw is hidden under the grime), but aside from using a small amount of fluid feels pretty solid.

Having had a rack fail on me mid turn, I would replace it. If the boots have been split long, it is probably full of sand and crap.

If it's not much of a street car anymore, you can always take it apart and inspect it, and remove all the power steering concessions and make yourself a nice manual steering rack.
