I don't need another car, nor another project, but I'm always tempted by running cars that share components with my current fleet and since I'm heading out to PRI early Friday I of course find this:

Sure I already have a rental car and flight home booked, but I can easily cancel the rental (or return it early). Too bad Kaplhenke won't be at the show as they're close to home for me as well.
So what do you enablers say, and who'd be down to take part in Saturday night post purchase 900 mile road trip prep.

Show up - wave $700 in cash and let the hilarity ensue.
I have wanted on for rally-X for a while but everyone I come across up here people want a $$$$ for them. I see them posted on TurboBricks for $3-5K routinely.
Rallycross would happen. Heck dailying might happen if I were to pick it up. The availability of parts locally is dangerous and I'd kinda like one that wasn't getting the V8 treatment.

If it has the 5-panel rear lights, they are hard to come by and expensive.
I think 83 would still be the 5-panel lights.
Drop in a turbo motor from a 740 or 940 and have fun.
I'd likely raid this guys pile of parts for turbo bits, spare trans and wiring parts

Looks like fun...and dangerously close to me....

the 318 already checks the boxes that a 240 would for you. Are you coming out to PRI?
Unless you don't have emissions testing and plan on an engine swap or at least megasquirt, etc I probably wouldn't. Aren't there a lot of either nla or $1200 parts in the fuel injection system on those?

for that cheap, who cares?
Maryland has emissions testing, but not on cars registered as historic (which is an option on any 20+ year old car)
Too bad GRM doesn't have booth space to hold the Volvo while at the show. We could sticker bomb it with GRM stickers and GRM advertiser stickers and decals that are attending the show before it's 900 mile drive to Maryland.
heard from the seller, he's confident that the car will make it back to Maryland without issue or drama and seems quite normal for a craigslist seller.
Make sure to find us at PRI, we will be there on Friday and Saturday

a new possible contender if the Volvo falls through for some reason

although I'm thinking it's likely a 2.5L opposed to a 4.0L
You wanna drive home a nice turbo miata? I could use the driveway space.
In reply to Swank Force One:
I'd love to, but it would take away from the adventure of a sub $1000 arrive and drive. That being said if I pick something up and don't have to catch a bird out of town Saturday evening I may need to check it out for a future trip out that way.
Sure! Send me an email through the site when you know what's going on. I check email constantly on my phone.
will do, even though SWMBO will be salty with me if I bring a Volvo filled with BPT parts home
The good news is that i don't have any turbo BP (or BP at all) parts besides what's currently residing on a built BP sitting in said Miata.

The last time I heard that from a craigslist seller my inspection revealed no fluid in the transmission, a dripping rubber fuel line, and 1 bolt holding on the ac compressor. But yeah. He was confident it would be fine on a two hour ride home.

True, though that's never stopped me before...
I'm not sure if I'll make it to PRI or not...if only it were on Sunday, too. If I do make it, it will be Saturday.
