Price Check on My Dads Truck

My dad needs to consolidate vehicles. He will be selling his truck and we are trying to determine the value of the thing.

The Good 1995 Ford F-350, 7.3l turbo diesel 2wd non dually, Full size cab with power windows and door locks, 231,000 miles, Cruise control, 5th wheel hitch with trailer brakes, Tires are fairly new with lots of tread, Drive train in great shape, Tows like a tiny god

The Bad Paint is faded, Bed has dents from straps, Interior is in ok shape but very red, Windshield is delaminating in the corner, Front end has play in it, Front right brake drags lightly occasionally - probably due for caliper rebuild,

Location is key for this truck and could help or hurt the value, but sounds like a $4000 truck around here.

Yeah good idea we are located in Central Florida so rust is not an issue.

does "full size cab" mean a crew cab 4-door, or an extended cab?

2WD will hurt the value a bit depending on location, but the 7.3 powerstrokes are desireable workhorses.

There is no bad. It is all good. Keep it. For heavens sake, you can't replace it for what you'll get out of it.

It is an automatic. Full size cab means four doors with a proper back seat. 2wd may hurt value but there are some advantages in mpg and maintenance. Its particularly good at highway towing. The 7.3l seems like a beast of a motor so I can see why they are desirable. I agree he'll never be able to replace it for the same it does its job exceptionally well but my Dad is getting older and just doesn't have the energy to wrench on a 20 year old truck. He also recently retired and needs to get out of his daily driver car payment so the idea is selling the truck to help with negative equity on his car.

Sounds like a great tow rig for somebody here. where is it located?

So I guess followup question. He still has a sailboat he needs to tow, because he is consolidating he will need 1 vehicle that can be a daily driver (retired so not many miles) and tow his boat (3500 lbs). It needs a backseat at least big enough for kids ages 5-13. It needs to be new enough to get financing and not crazy high mileage somewhere below 60k. Budget will be somewhere in the 10-12k range maybe a little higher because he will be saving money on insurance going to one vehicle. He will need to trade in his daily with about 2k negative equity and finance the difference so will likely need to go through a dealership. Any suggestions on make/model to search for?

Suburban or expedition. My dads been driving a 2000 4x4 expedition 5.4 for a dozen years as a traveling salesman and towing boats every year most of the year, its got over 300k miles and runs like a top still, and the "big" boat is 6 or 7000 lbs. "littler" boat is 4k with trailer and its pulled every weekend the weather is nice.

I say sell the truck, ask 4500 take 3500 minimum and put him in a fullsized suv

I've heard great things about the suburbans and expeditions but unfortunately any of those new enough to be financed won't be in budget unless something dramatic has happened to the market.

In my neck of the woods it's a 2k to 3k truck. 2wd knocks a lot off the price in snow country

In central ga I just paid 3500 for a 96 in nearly identical condition, same options, same mileage but an extended cab. It was the only OBS powerstroke I found that I would even consider for less than 5000. Most under 5 were beat to death and 300k miles Around here I'd clean it up and start that truck at $6000, expecting to get 5 pretty easily.

I would say 3000-3500.

I'd be interested...but I am in MN so someone is making a road trip! :) Check what KBB.com says. Ask for what private party resale value is in Excellent condition. FWIW up here, it seems like everyone ASKS for 15% above blue book.
