all the clearcoat has peeled off the top half of my work truck. the basecoat is still in fair shape, and theres no surface rust yet.

theres plans on down the road a ways (couple of years) to paint the whole thing properly, but thats just not in the time/money cards right now.

so that brings me to my idea.

i have about 7 cans of gloss black krylon spray paint. was going to use it to redo some railings at work, but wound up replacing them instead.

so im thinking if i sand the top half of my truck with 320, 400, and wipe it down really good, ill spray paint it.

how will it hold up for the next few years? the truck never sees the garage, and rarely sees wax or a hose. its a work truck afer all. (may wax it if it will keep the krylon up better, but it still wont be often.)

all i realloy want to do is make it look better and keep it from getting any worse until i get the time and money to do it right.

what do you all think?

I've had the same idea in the past. Be sure to let us know how it turns out.

Krylon won't hold up in the weather very well, especially lots of sun but you could respray it as it's so cheap.

I wish I could remember what I spray bombed the junkyard parts I used on my Nissan truck with. The color was close enough (black), and it looked pretty similar to the fading clear paint. With a good coat of wax, I couldn't tell the difference. I do recall it being something I bought at Wal-Mart in the Bondo section.

paint it a contrasting color and try to tell people it's part of a rare factory deluxe 2 tone package..

the truck is burgundy (and bugs/mud/peeling clearcoat).

so the black is the two tone option.

great truck, low miles, new interior, junk paint.

so, were thinking the krylon could do what i need it to do for as long as i need it to do it?

In reply to Dusterbd13:

maybe see the $50 roll-on paint thread, it'll prolly hold up better
