What respirators would you recommend for doing paintwork?

3M disposable, in the ziploc bag. About $25, at about every automotive paint supply store. Keep them zipped up when not in use, and it will last longer.

I have an older SAS brand; one that isn't disposable, but has replaceable cartridges. The replacements are more difficult to find, and only a little cheaper than the new 3M respirator. So for my last paint job, i just bought the 3M unit. Anyone want to buy a useless respirator?

I should add:

Unless you're painting Imron or another isocyanate-laden product. Then only use a supplied-air respirator.

You can usually find replacement cartridges on ebay.

Once you open a carbon filter and get a little moisture in it, it starts aging. They have a definite life span that you cannot really determine what it is.

I wouldn't waste my money on disposable respirators.

what ever you buy, make sure it is MSA approved

For me, the requirement of a forced-air respirator is the line at which I use a pro. If I can potentially kill myself, I probably will.
