A 1988 Conquest TSi just sold on BaT for $27,000. Yes, you can get them ratted-out for way less, but if you want mint and low miles, you are into collector-car territory now. That black Eagle Talon TSi I have always wanted will be going for similar prices soon for good examples. Heck, 1st gen M3s are 6-figure cars now!

Not a bad price there
Oh yeah... I gave up on ever owning a '69 Dodge Charger years ago.
I've written off owning a first gen Viper GTS as a 'Lottery winning' car.
I blame Barret Jackson. Not them per-say, but the televised auctions because watching 2 people battle over some car and paying a ridiculous price for garage art made everyone suddenly want $10,000 for their rotten shell in the field because 'One just like it sold for $100,000 on the TeeVee' no, that was an anomaly of 2 rich dudes fighting over wallet size, not the actual market value of the item.

You just missed out on a really nice yellow Conquest for $7500. It belonged to the guy I bought my 4g63t from last summer. I'd posted it in the Enablers FB group a week or two ago.
Ha! Lightweights. My dream '63 Corvette Z06 tanker just went over ONE MEEELION dohlars at Amelia. Oh well, at least my junk is going up too.
240Z? 510? 911? 2002?
Danny Joe Brown said it best....
Makes me think about how much some of the cars I've driven and thought "yeah that was alright at best" will be worth some day.
I missed the boat so badly on 60-series land cruisers. Bought a 3rd gen 4runner instead (thinking it'd be more reliable) in like 2011 when you could still get a decent one for like $6000.

I love that song.
Yeah, a lot of my dream cars are escalating out of the price range I'd be willing to pay for them. If I changed my car hobby to wiping the car with a polishing rag, and sitting in front of it in a folding chair at cruise ins, I could justify buying one of my 80's/90's dream cars.
My mid 70's Chevelle or Cutlass dreams are still alive for now, but I better get a move on.

You, too?
At this point, my only hope is to buy a Crown Vic and do a body panel swap. Last I checked the sheet metal would cost around $10K. Right now, you can't buy a '69 Charger VIN plate for under $10K.
I'm observing the same things as everyone else here. Seems like I lost out on air-cooled Porsches, FD RX7s, and the NSX...Z32 300ZXs are still cheaper than a lot of the other 90's J-rockets but are climbing. Same with E46 M3s. Do kind of feel like it's now or never for some stuff.
I moved to California for a good job and now have the opposite situation I did in Wisconsin (I have the income for more toys, but no space)! If the right car came along I very well might just pick it up and throw it in a cheap storage unit on a non-op registration until I can get to it...

I'm always very reluctant to use BAT as a price guide.
Regardless the point is still valid. Thank goodness old Formula cars are still affordable.

^this. Its about as accurate as Barrett Jackson for real world prices. There will always be people with more money than skill/brains. But there will also be plenty of deals out there if you know where and how to look. But BAT is not where you go shopping if you are of the grassroots mindset.
I've realized much the same. A lot of cars I grew up with from the 80s/90s (I was born in '82) nice ones are just getting crazy expensive. At least what I consider crazy expensive.
I missed the (in order):
1). Ferrari 308 boat
2). Porsche 911 SC boat
3). Mazda RX-7 FD boat
4). Porsche 996 turbo boat
5). Porsche 996 GT3 boat
And a few others I really wanted and could've bought once upon a time.....
I may miss the 987 Cayman boat soon too.
In reply to AnthonyGS (Forum Supporter) :
I think the 987.2 Cayman may go down as the last pure driver's Porsche. I have been thinking about those as well...

I agree. It will be an iconic car in the near future.
I can buy all the dream cars I want. They can be found in the Hot Wheels and Matchbox section at most stores.

Right now they may as well be dream cars as well though.

Yup, $20K
That sounds downright reasonable.
OTOH my experience is colored by living within a radius of Buschur Racing, and for whatever reason DSMs had crazy value here. Not sure if they were vacuuming up all the cheap ones or what. I remember seeing rolling chassis with rust issues being advertised for $2000 and the ad disappearing quickly in the early-mid 00s. Couldn't touch a complete AWD car for under $4k.

Yep, missed the air cooled 911 bandwagon. I toyed with getting one while you could still get a decent driver for $10-15k but the maintenance and part prices scared me off.
I bought, crashed, and sold a E36 M3 for under ten grand.
I'm now into 60s Fords, which have nearly doubled in value in the last ten years. And don't even talk to me about pre-1990s pickups.

At least in my neck of the woods, it is starting to get a little better. I've had better luck with finding Matchbox ones I want more than Hot Wheels..
