I am going to say I am impressed by the specs on the Cayenne S Hybrid. 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, 150mph, 20 mpg and 24 mpg from a close to 5000lbs.

That is barely faster than a hybrid Lexus SUV but with much worse MPG. I am sure the Porsche would take the Lexus in a autocross though...assuming it doesn't tip over.

112 MPH and 7.4 seconds to 60 is a lot slower IMHO.

Doesn't exist anymore. The normal TDI is a lot slower and the hybrid is pretty much the same speed.

No matter what, I prefer the 3.6 for a 6 cylinder, but were I going to spend that much, a Turbo S would be on my docket.

Are we reall arguing about SUV performance here? Does it really matter, they are all SUVs? Vehicles without any real purpose. Not as good at being a car as a car. Not as good at carrying people or stuff as a minivan. Not good for towing like a truck. In short they exist for no real reason other than a gullible automobile buying public as far as I can tell.

Disclaimer: I have never owned an SUV and do not foresee ever owning one. (not counting my Jeep Wrangler - that is a Jeep, not an SUV)

Actually, our Cayanne S 2006, picked up for $25K from the local Porsche dealer has been an awesome car. 400-ish hp and loads of torque, handles absurdly well- period. Not a "for what it is' statement in there, it just handles amazingly well. Original sticker in 2006 on the beast was around 75k and it is pretty loaded- Tiptronic, air suspension, pretty much everything but the DVD headrests. The capabilities the thing has are just unbelievable- locking front, center, and rear diffs, adjustable ride height, and PSM, 14 inch 6-piston front brakes, almost as large rear, and best of all- its a Porsche.

EDIT- Not sure about all of the Cayennes, but ours has a 7K lb tow rating and does very well trailering pretty much anything an SUV would trailer, which cannot be said of most, if not all, other "SUV's" these days.

Although the Touareg and the Cayenne are based )loosely) on the same platform, I am not sure how much they share in regards to the brake pad/rotor/caliper bits and having only driven on winter tires I cannot yet comment on front tire wear. Although, to be honest, any car driven in the manner the Cayenne gets driven would have about the same tire/brake life, whether it be the Evo, the e36, or even my "cheap" and antiquated Tahoe.

For 25K I can drive a depreciating every single day Nissan/Toyota/Honda/whatever or we could drive the Cayenne, which is an amazingly capable on and off-road vehicle which is beyond impressive in the snow-kinda important here in Colorado- can tow race cars, boats, etc, gets reasonable (I average 19 or so, my wife can do better or worse) fuel milage, looks awesome, and is built like a tank.

I can't see myself in a Cayenne, but I would like to pick up a Cayman in a couple years. That or a nice, fully-depreciated 911.

Well, on second thought... How is a secondhand Cayenne on maintenance costs? Better than an Audi? Maybe I can replace the MPV with one in a few years.

In the first year we have owned the 06 all we have actually spent in maintenance has been oil changes. Filters (Mann) are about $17 bucks and it legitimately takes about 45 minutes to an hour to change the oil because of the plastic undertray. Tires are currently Bridgestone Blizzaks and I am on the lookout for the "summer" wheels and tires now. Probably going to go to a Sumitomo but we will see.

We are about to do the front brakes in the next month or so using DBA rotors and we figure $500 on full set of rotors, $200 in pads fnt and rear, and a couple hours of my time.

Beyond that, it runs awesome and has zero malfunctions :)
