What witchcraft are people doing to register these in the states? In California and Nevada no less.
This is the only grey market car violating the 25 year import rule I ever see, and i'm seeing them all over all of a sudden. Arizona, Nevada, socal.....
When I was in Canada you could pick these up for less than $5k almost anywhere. That would be a great fun car for that kind of money.
I remember 2 years ago when I was last working at Nellis there was someone who owned one but I never got a chance to ask him about it.
What are they doing? Registering them as kit cars or something? I would think the states out here would be ridiculously strict with cars like this.
(I had to look up what a Pulsar GTIR was )
Count me in as "interested". I've seen more than one Skyline GT-R for sale, or on craigslist (etc), and I'm really curious as to "how?".
are they really GTIRs? If I wanted to get my hands on one, the regular Nissan is still availible.. just buy the hopped up version in canada and strip and apply parts to the US Market one
In reply to mad_machine:
But the regular version isn't available in the US.

They are definately real GTIRs. It's a very unique looking car and they didn't sell the body style in the US i don't believe.
I only saw two of them up close and parked, one of which was in Nellis AFB with Nevada plates. I thought they were unique and saw them a couple years ago but I saw 4 others in the past 2 months while travelling across the south west. They all had state plates, not canadian or mexican cars for sure.
I've been somewhat interested in this car for a while because i'm kind of a Nissan fan. This car has a unique SR20DET setup with ITBs, it has the ATESSA AWD system, and weighs something of 2700lbs stock. They also sold a version stripped down without any power features, AC, or radio that is even lighter stock. I was always told, in the past, that the gt2860rs turbo you see sold commonly was from this car as well. It doesn't have rally success but none the less is interesting.
I always wanted to get one of the forbidden awd turbo cars that was never sold in the US so when I started seeing them I had to start figuring this out because they are not legal until 2015 at least.

R33s can be sold here I remember reading a while ago but they are at a HUGE markup because they had to be imported through this one importer that no longer exists. In March the first build date of R32 GTRs start coming around so if you want one it's not further for you to wait if you can find a '89. I think the Silvia's build date starts around the same time too.
I did some googling and people seem to think they could at least get it here if they had the Canadian guy drive across the border, sell is to buyer avoiding customs to get in the country, but then you have to register it. Some suspect it's registered as a kit car but some who bought ones that were brought over already say it's registered with the 12 digit vin and as a '9x pulsar. No first hand info though

You just described why i want one much shorter than I did.

Pulsars (they're all over up here too) might have been properly federalized. That's how the R33's exist pre 25 year rule. There are certain exceptions that can be made in certain cases (see my buddies blue VIN RHD 95 STi) but it's exponentially more difficult than just waiting. I think he got lucky under the "This E36 M3 already exists here" clause, and MN is a big fan of "We don't care, we're too busy being cold and doin' fat chicks in ice houses under the guise of "fishing*".
This is a cool Nissan Pulsar
This is the Nissan Pulsar that came after the Datsun 310GX in the USA.
One of the old tuner mags featured an N13 with a full gtir drivetrain swap years back, as I recall it was no simple swap but hellasweet
I just want the engine for my B13.
The original Gran Tourismo game turned me on to these cars way back when. I lusted after them in jap car rags at the time also. If they are truly popping up more and more, I want one.
This is the other pulsar we received here in he states.
A friend of mine got one into Washington, along with a legacy gtb. Both cars were easy to register it seems, but they both had to cross the Canadian border cut in half

Nope, they're not on the list. The R33 is.

What if you just have a canadian drive it across the border and sell it to you here?
I understand the "cut in half" thing people do that and register them as kit cars they built because of that

Could you cut a car in half in a such a way that it look totaled, but is actually very easy to weld back together? For instance, behind the rear wheels, or in front of the fronts?
His were both done in the center of the a pillar, and the floor at the front door openings. When he welded them back together he made reinforcement inserts from half cuts.
