Now that I've been able to flog the Fiesta a bit more, the "front wheel bearing noise" is staying constant... so i was preparing to pull the front hubs apart to press in new bearings.

Bearings in a Fiesta are a known failure point, but this car has forged hubs and the previous owner said the bearings were great when he parked it 5 years ago.

Turning the hubs unloaded by hand, everything seems nice and smooth.

But then it hit me that I'm mainly only hearing the "bearing noise" when I'm swerving... loading one side and then the other... a pretty typical way to load the bearing so the noise will be more distinct. And both sides seem pretty equal in noise... sort of unusual unless both bearings failed to the same extent at the same time.

Is it possible that I'm actually hearing/feeling noise from loading/unloading the Quaife? I've never owned one before so don't really know what sort of behavior to expect.

(It's not tires because I mounted an old set that came with the car and it sounded the same)

Thanks! Bill

FWIW, the Quaife in my 86 Saab 900 is silent.

I'd vote for it being the bearings. My Quaife's totally silent.
