all of us with even a vague appreciation of Jeeps know that the newer non Renix 4.0 inline 6 is rated at 190hp at about 4600 rpm. My question is does any body make a cam to shift more of the power down underneath the curve? My Jeep has never seen 4600 rpm under load in it's entire 140k mile life. I'd be much much happier with an engine that made a peak 120 or 130hp but had more of it available under the curve. Something more like a modern turbo-diesel though I know I'll never quite achieve that. I'll admit that part of my problem is the gear ratio (3.07) but I still don't think I'll ever be operating anywhere near peak power even after I shift to 4.10 gears. I haven't seen too many aftermarket cams out there and the one's I do see are made to give even more peak hp at the expense of torque.
Can anyone help?
That would be a "High Torque" cam. They used to be available for RV's. Try Jegs etc. Maybe even JCW.

you are welcome.
i dont know of any. i put a bigger Crane cam in my 4.7L stroker but the bigger displacement negated any loss of low rpm torque. its beautiful.
i'd call Crower (or comp or crane or) and see if they can cut you a custom cam. i had a friend in college who had them cut him a custom spec cam for 302 with a bunch of aftermarket parts and that thing made something like 85% of peak torque from 2000-6800 rpm. granted yours is a stock application it sounds like, but see what they have to say.
otherwise you could probably play with cam timing a little if those offset pins are available.
edit-looks like they do exist.
thanks guys.
That 4.7 stroker sure sounds nice. That and the Clifford cam (perhaps installed a few degrees retarded??) should be just the ticket for towing. I'm just not yet committed enough for an LSX install so I'm sticking with the 6 for now.

No, not retarded. Advanced.
I second the notion of just advancing the stock cam.
This is actually a good idea. I rarely go over 3,200 rpm or so. I would love some additional torque off idle and I bet it would help my mileage.
