Yes. So much yes.
Update: Now with big nasty looking Goodyear Duratracs.
Serviced the transmission. Happy to see I wasn't the first.
Pulled a spark plug out. Double platinum worn to twice the specified gap. Too bad there's 16 of them. In the process of replacing with ngk copper plugs.
Bolted on a 5000lb receiver hitch into factory provided holes, already threaded. Hitch came with frame reinforcing brackets. Went to put them on, and found mercedes already added some in the same place. Better looking ones than Reese sent in the box.
And the rear brakes were no big deal. Zimmerman rotors for $100 pair. Akebono pads for $60. Even came with sensors.
The clunking sound was a motor mount. I replaced both, and the tranny mount in an afternoon. $55 in parts.
Your latest update is very bad... Because it further prompts me to do the same. And falls in line with my first post on pg 1
Jurassic Park The Lost World used these no?
Off to Google...
Edit: I'm a moron to not have seen the pic above. Nvrmnd
It's good to see that the prices for parts on newer Mercedes are really not bad at all if you do it yourself.
I'm going to replace that passenger front door to eliminate the associated rust. Another door in the same color is $300.
Why buy a Mercedes if you're just going to solidify the mounts so it shakes like a Saturn?
Don't get me wrong, it's a neat truck...
You've pretty much done what I've been telling myself I shouldn't do for several years now!
Please keep updates flowing!
(I also want to do this with a Disco but...)
It makes me feel warm and fuzy to know this m113 motor can be found super or twin-turbo charged in other applications with another 50% more power. It makes me want to believe that making 347hp doesn't stress it out.
Same deal with the transmission. Some version of it is used in various other heavy/high horsepower vehicles. V12's, twin turbo's, that big dumb Maybach thing, Sprinter vans, etc...
the list of applications for this transmission on wikipedia is pretty interesting. Supercharged Jaguars... Porsche 996?!?
Oh yeah, and the master power window switch was broke. I had to drop $43 on amazon prime for a brand new one.
