Racing gloves

When rallycrossing my hands get very sweaty and it makes it rather hard to grip the steering wheel. I decided to look at racing gloves and the only ones I have found are $50+.

I don't need anything special, just something to help grip the steering wheel better. Are there other options to look at? Any cheap gloves that work well?

There are some guys at my local Porsche club that use HF gloves of all things...

Go look in your local TSC for some soft work gloves. Golf gloves will work, but aren't that durable, so I'll suggest the Canadian alternative.........curling gloves.
Seriously, they are grippy like golf gloves, but made of thicker leather.

For autox and anything that doesn't have to be fireproof, get a pair of batting gloves. They're supple and thin, so you don't lose your tactile connection to the controls.

They have the better SFI rating too.

There are usually a lot of sizes and colors on ebay, but I only see a few at the moment. You might want to contact the seller and ask what else they have that's not listed if you don't see what you need.

I use a pair of gforce gloves I bought on sale from discovery parts for $35. I love em, if you watch the racer supply sites they have sales pretty often.

where are you located? I have driving impressions local to me (TeamDI.com) and usually Bob has some unsold private label stuff in the back that he lets go for a decent price (got a nice pair of gloves that were made for ESPN Russell schools for less than your $50 figure) if you're looking for legitimate race gear, so that might be an avenue to explore if you're local to a decent shop. Other wise you have the multitude of options that the others have mentioned...

Batting gloves?

I was once given a pair that were comprised of thin, stretchable nylon while the palms and fingers were covered with a fine-grade sandpaper-like surface.

They worked surprising well on leather steering wheels and I can't imagine they cost very much.

Harbor Freight Grip Gloves. Useful for wet Ultimate Frisbee. $1.79/pair.

Seems the two different brands I've tried do this too. Neither were cheap but one light tug on the gauntlet cuff and the thread starts to give. So pinch and pull'em on with the leather stiched to the palm.

For years i used MotoCross gloves in the race car but then they mandated SFI gloves

Lori uses a set of thin leather driving gloves, can't remember where she got them, maybe Wilson's. In the past, when I drove a car with a very thin steering wheel, I used fingerless bicycling gloves. The thick leather padding meant I didn't have to grip as tight, and it was nice to have the terry cloth on the back to wipe away sweat. I still have them, but I think they've shrunk a bit, I might need to hit up the local bike shop and see if I can pick up a cheap pair again.

Agree. I keep a clean pair in my helmet bag.

i have a pair of simpsons racing gloves, large, black, that i dont need (i bought a duffel bag on craigslist and the guy offered the gloves up for $20 just for the sake of getting rid of em) - he said they were used 3 races. Im in nyc area, if youre local (and will be at lemons at summit point this weekend also). Want em for $20?

Aviator gloves run about $40.

For $40 you can get real driving gloves, though.

Batting gloves also. I buy em on clearance at the end of the season and use them for wrenching also. cheaper than Mechanix and the velcro on the wrist is extra support for bad wrists.

I love my $80 Bell Apex gloves. They're worth every cent.

Had one go missing at a rallyx so now i have to buy another pair...

it's been many yrs , but the racquetball gloves I wore back in the day were leather AND washable ... but yeah batting gloves work great

I'm a military pilot and have gone through many pair for flying. Once they're past their useful service, I bring them home to the garage. They're great for tig welding, driving, etc.

Football gloves. I used to wear them playing Ultimate in the cold. The biggest problem is that they're sticky enough to make it difficult to release the disc properly

For driving, I use driving gloves. I've tried both the Team DI and Simpsons. There's a fair difference in the quality, but my Simpsons have now fallen apart due to use so I'm using the DIs.
