The sport looks like a lot of fun but I'm not finding any events anywhere near me. Is there really no rallycross in Central or Southern Wisconsin, or Northern Illinois? Lots of car enthusiasts between Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison...and a fair amount of rural and too. What gives? All of you guys with your posts about this and build threads are making me want to get into it.
I know how you feel. The closest one to me is 2 hours. the next closest is 5hours.
How far away is Stateline rallycross? They have events in Byron, IL.
Oh, cool. That's about 1.75 hours away. They also seem to run events in Shawano, about 2.5 hours away.
Is a stock CX-5 a viable car to give this a try? I think my M3 and the 240SX track car would be suboptimal. The 240SX actually would be fun on base boost with the clutch type diff, real safety gear etc but I'm sure it's too low/stiff and has no underbody protection.
does the cx-5 meet SCCA 3.1? Im 90% sure you still have to meet that for rallyx.
Rallycross is up to the safety steward and stateline isn't a scca group anyway. I would message them and see what cars they would allow.
Does the Furrin Group still run? I seem to recall they were in the Chicago-ish area. Maybe.
Years and years back there used to be a rallycross forum and it seemed that most of the members were from around there.
Gravity Park in Chilton, Wi used to rallyx but I never went. Their website shows motocross but talks about cars.
Hmm. I found a YouTube vid of a guy rallycrossing a stock CX-5. What I'd really like to do is buy a rough Fiesta ST and gently mod it to be a bad weather daily driver and rallyX car. Keep my M3 off the road when it's really nasty out. I have a two car limit imposed by the wife though and no more garage space.
Yeah stateline. I think furrin is in West Michigan, ok for Chicagoland but really far for people in wi.
Furrin group is Grand Rapids Michigan area.
Wisconsin autosport group did events at gravity. There are a couple groups that run them.
Central Wisconsin sports car club and fox valley sports car club do some ice race and rallyx too.
All good clubs to run with.
