The Escort may be the poster child for Ford's rally efforts during the 1970s, but the brand also experimented with a mid-engined rally car following the success of the GT40 program.
Related to the GT40 only by name, the GT70 was powered by a 2.6-liter V6 out of the Capri RS2600.

Looks dorky. Now the GT90, that thing was rad!
A little Stratos fighter!
I think it looks great, and would be even more handsome with the headlights closed.

Came here to say just about the same thing.

Now that you say that....
I was just going to say... I see a lot of Porsche 904 DNA in that Ford. I dig it!
From that angle I see a bit of Opel GT.
I wouldn't call it ugly.
I was just like, I'm, a 49 year old car guy, why have I never heard of this car before, and there was a GT90? TIL. EDIT: Am I the only one that thinks the GT90 is Bugattiesque from the rear?

Which would mean you've never heard of the Indigo, either, right? One of those actually hustled hard under it's own power.
Slightly more mundane than a Dino but i dont think it's actually worse, or that the Dino is that great. Just my .02.
I don't see why Ford didn't mass produce something like this. It stacks up well against the Porsche 914, the Datsun 240Z and even the Lotus Europa. This is way beyond what British Leyland was doing at the time.

I had folders with pictures of the Indigo and the GT90 when I was in HS (mide-late 90s obviously)

Except the Stratos was two years later.
which, interestingly, was dropped in favor of the Fiat 131.
