Should the output shafts feel 'notchy' when rotated in opposite directions. They both turn very smooth in the same direction. Replacing some rear wheel bearings as well as output seal on a non-LSD from 89' 325i. The diff fluid looked fine coming out, inside the diff looks like brand new. There were no unusual sounds on driving the car. While I've heard 'crotchiness' is normal for BMW owners, is this 'notchiness' a normal quality on these E30 differentials? Friend/mechanic feels this is not normal, and other makes do not do this, although he has not prior experience on E30s or BMWs. Any help/guidance appreciated

Could be the spider gears just playing games.

From my experience, if you are turning the wheels on an open diff car, it should feel very fluid and smooth. If you are turning axles or, in your case, output shaft yokes, you might feel the gears inside doing their thing. If it is a problem, you'll start hearing/feeling things sooner than you'd like.
