My Fairmont keeps auto-ejecting its rear-view mirror. I keep gluing it back in place with rear-view mirror adhesive. What works better?

I gotta admit, I expected a little more from the hive.  But, thanks, Evan.

Huh. I used the specialized mirror gluing stuff and it's working so far, but it's only been a few months. What about a fancy dash-mounted steel rod that holds it up from below?

I’ve used various made auto store bought adhesives marked for rear view mirrors and I had various results. Honestly can’t remember which worked and didn’t as it’s been a while. I know one car took me 3-4 different tries to get the mirror to finally stay. Believe it was on my old Cherokee.

The mirror glue just makes me angry when it falls back off.   Believe it or not, I have had good luck with J.B. Weld...

I never got any of the DIY adhesives to last more than a month.  Finally gave up & went to a glass shop where they charged me $20 and it stayed in place for the 3 years or so I kept that vehicle.  Wish I had just started with the glass shop. I wasted too much time, effort, and money trying to DIY.

In my 1986 Gti I tried the cheap mirror glue kit.  Two weeks later it fell off.  I opted for the two part epoxy type mirror glue and found success.  Make sure you clean and re-clean the mounting point with alcohol (rubbing, not beer).

I used a NAPA kit on my Forester. Lasted until it got cold, sub 20 degrees for a week. I would try JB weld, but that's my answer to everything ducttape can't make stick.

Wink mirror? It’s effective, it works. It’s better. It’s racecar parts.

My glass guy does them for free, and has some sort of amazing glue that never falls off. Every single DIY kit I’ve ever used has failed within a few weeks.

So, uh, call a glass guy.

I went to a glass guy. He used a Loctite adhesive and an activator (I assume) that he sprayed on the window. We'll see how it goes.

This appears to be what he used:
