Recommend me a new car.

Criteria:

-At least 25 mpg highway

-New or used

-Not a miata.

-4 doors preferrebly.

-Can be 5 speed or auto... prefer 5 speed though.

-Sporty is good...

-Not a miata

-cant be over $23000 driving off the lot.

I'm in the market and I feel kind of like nothing good is for sale, and all used cars are so expensive that I might as well be buying a new one. So I figured you guys would give me good advice. Midsize trucks were initially what I wanted but I don't want to fill up a 22+ gallon fuel tank every week... And holy crap do people want a lot for Tacoma's or Frontiers...

I currently have 2 cars that are junk and I'm sick of driving "Sporty DD's" that are on the verge of track only duty and the other is complete beater status. Both are broke down at the moment so I've hit my breaking point.

Not a Miata
Under $23k out the door.

I went over to www.fueleconomy.gov and used their Power Search function.
I put in the rules of 2012 & 2013 (new)
Under $20k msrp
manual trans
better than 25 hyw

It came back with 91 choices.
Try it yourself, there are even pictures provided for the 91.

New small cars are remarkably good right now. For what they are anyway. They're not fast, they're not big. They fit people well, they get fantastic mileage (35+) and they can be very entertaining to drive. On top of that, they're cheap. I think you need to add $10K before you get into anything that's much better. Myself and a few others around here bought a Mazda 2, the GRM boys have a Fiesta. The Fit is also highly regarded. They're not cool though, not at all, and never will be.

Honda Civic Si:: Right at $23k, one of the best FWD sticks on the market, sporty, but neither harsh, nor "boy-racer" in 4 door guise, 31 MPG HWY, and best of all - the Civic is still an extremely reliable car that will probably give you an easy decade of trouble free service.

Sounds like you want a car that combines practicality with fun, and this is it.

WELL THEN... Sorry for the vague requirements! Lol I'm just kidding, honestly I didnt know you could do a search like that, I've even been using that site for a while now. I just haven't actually searched within the site, thanks!

You could get some nice BMWs for that kind of money.

lol I love this list. More specifically cars 2 and 3... I'm just afraid feeding them fuel would get out of hand... Id say Im 60/40 (highway/city) at the moment... But that could easily go 30/70 or even the opposite very quickly with my job...

ShadowSix might have the right idea... I was looking at the new Si's and I like what I saw. I just always seem to gravitate towards Honda and lately my opinions of them have been waning... partly because of the ones I own. Partly because of their slips in quality. And partly because their wrong wheel drive. Nevertheless I was also thinking about the Fit. I like them, I'm curious to see how they would drive with 3-4 adults in them though. 1.5L might seem like a mouse wheel when you add some weight to it.

I might have to add no AWD.. to the list. I almost feel like it's added complexity for the off chance I might actually need the extra two drive wheels 1 time a year. Interesting the CTS-V keeps popping up

Nothing FWD is cool. And for the record I've owned WAY more FWD cars than any other variation so please dont lose it on me lol. In the end I buy FWD cars because thats pretty much 75% of whats on the road and cheap to build/run hard... When a RWD falls in my lap though I dont turn it down.

Why is the Fiesta/Mazda 2 and Fit not cool? (other than FWD and little displacements)

When I see a 2 or a fit in a parking lot, it always has an automatic and E36 M3 hanging from the rear view mirror and a sticker of flip flops on the back window and it's driven by a preschool teacher. Every. Single. Time. It doesn't help that mine has three booster seats in it and a copy of They Might Be Giants Here Come The ABCs on constant repeat in the cd player. My kids call it the tiny car. As much as I love it and recommend it, it's not cool.

BMW 5 series. Best "family" car I have ever owned by far. There is just nothing that isn't right about it.
