In an effort to once and for all eliminate the vibration I'm getting at speed, my 128i is getting a new driveshaft (BMW doesn't let you just replace the U-joints, naturally). The OE piece is ludicrously priced, so I'm looking for alternatives. Due to shipping costs, I'd rather it be someplace relatively close to the Northeast, but quality matters more than proximity. The only one I seem to recall being mentioned before here is Driveline Service of Atlanta, which is definitely an option, but I figured I'd see if there were any other recommendations before I put in a call.

Thanks. Their website seems to be down, and it was difficult to find in the first place. Is this the sort of place where a phone call is the only way to actually communicate?
Yes. Most of their business is walk in. They do hydraulics, bearings, and driveshafts. Lots of cylinder rebuilding for excavators, plows etc. They build all of the custom driveshafts around here. Everybody with a street rod knows them. Ask for Steve. He owns the place and knows what his stuff.
I find moat local driveshaft shops are very capable. Especially when it comes to just replicating an existing shaft.
Where are you based?
I could recommend a place in Greensburg pa.

I'm north of NYC. Ideally, I'd like to find a place that can send me a new (or rebuilt) unit, rather than having to send it off to be rebuilt. I'm not sure how many shops are able to do that.
If you were closer, I'd recommend South Shore Bearing in Quincy MA. They are excellent. I've had a shaft built by them, and two friends have just gotten shafts made for custom builds in the past few months. They do great work.

They are up in Westbrook, ME. Ask for Boots and tell him you know me.
