Can confirm the rear suspension is about the last thing that needs consideration in this car.

Does anyone know the fore/aft angle of the rx8 subframe or a arms?

Hmm....

I hadn't considered that the mount point for the subframe was anything but parallel to the grouns. This may pose issues.

Try a good body shop or a Mazda dealer. They should have access to a data sheet that shows all the under floor dimensions of an RX-8 shell for repairing crash damage. My factory manual for my NA Miata had one.....that's how I knew what angle to mount the A-arms at. FWIW, a Miata front cross member is flat, the rear one is tipped forward by 10mm.

I'm sure someone on here has an rx8 and can grab a quick measurement or two as well.

Well, I tried to be a bad influence.

(For the record, I agree that there's nothing wrong with leaves) Do continue...

Trust me: i seriously considered the rx8 rear suspension too. The same issue with gearing that the miata has presented itself and killed that idea. I also thought about truck arms, four links, and three links. End result is that the leaves and 8.8 work well, are paid for, and get me on track sooner. Ill still have some gearing issues with the 3.73 gears, but thats at top end on the straights. Rpm and gear limited at 114 right now. Someday ill have to worry about it.

So, the scrutineer approved the front clip idea. They requested that i do subframe connectors as well due to rust.

Someone had mentioned doing a drawing for me of what they were thinking would be the optimal solution. Do you need more pictures or dimensions before i push it back out under the carport?

Plan on buying 2x3 square tube for the clip. But what thickness? Ill also need to figure out how long once i figured in the kinks the tube will need to make for pickup points.

I can look at it and see what it would take to SketchUp something.  If you could get some pictures or something online of the underside of the car to see where the stock "frame" reinforcement goes.

I would run a 2*3 (so the 3" part is horizontal) across the front of the rear spring perches, then run 2*3 forward at the width of the RX8 rear subframe mounts.  Gusset or tie that into the stock frame section at the firewall and have the 2*3 stick out.  Then use some more 2*3 to step up to the height of the upper subframe mounts and run forward to the bumper.  Bring roll bar tube down from your shock mount to make reinforcement.

Im not sure im following you. Youre talking about a rear bulkhead perpendicular to the rear rails made by 2x3, the subframe connectors tied to that in a t shaped fashion?

Also, these pictures help?

So, the 2x3 is bought, wheels and tires mounted and balanced for mockups. Flat tow setup is mounted to the car.

Its time to drag this to the lift and get started.

This right here is what decides the whole project  im nervous. I know i can do it, and you all will help, but nervous.

I'll need to reread this a bunch more times.....

Should the frame work be kept here, or kept in the build thread,  or both? I think id get more eyes and feedback here....

To bump this back up - I swear I remember someone posted pictures of those subframes with a measuring tape between mounting points, width wise and fore-aft. Do you know if those ended up in another thread?

I was also going to suggest the Binky route as that seems to be the best way to do this sort of conversion, but someone beat me to that a long time ago.   Otherwise, Interested in further updates.
