I had a random bench racing thought about flat sixes into a 2.5 RS to create sort of your own smaller cheaper version of a GTR. Then I found out that the Subaru SVX actually had an H6 motor and wow does it sound glorious.

The EG33 is a great sounding motor, but that video is not showing it.
You are hearing almost entirely the exhaust.
Here's a link that includes a few recordings of an EG33 completely uncorked (svxhunter is me):

The EG33 will bolt up to most '90's vintage Subie trannies.

One of the top two MA cars in the WDCR region rallyx group is a green H6 swapped imprezza wagon. That sound....
MA as in Maine or a class?
In reply to Jaynen:
I would guess the SCCA rallyX class, Modified AWD.
I want to build an h6 mid-engine pickup in the worst way. Use the DeDion rear axle from an AWD Grand Caravan, the h6, and an appropriate 2WD subby transmission and mount it all under a raised floor in some sort of mini-truck.
In reply to oldopelguy:
Dear God. This. So much win.
Please update the build thread regularly.
I keep threatening to jam a Subie H6 into a 914...
Ill come visit and help if you do.
Well someone cram an h6 somewhere!!!!!

Nah. I've moved on.
The 5 spd SVX is in FL, the SVreX was sold to a racer then disappeared, the 3.3L mid engine Justy ended up with a 2.0L (better fit), the Imprezza wagon candidate got sold, and the 3.3L Corvair never got finished.
I tried for a long time to stuff them into all kinds of stuff. It's a great engine. Right now I'm playing with things that have a little better after market support.
Wouldn't mind a 3.3L Vanagon someday- this is the wrong stage of my life.
3.3 puts out how much and weighs how much?

In stock trim, it's 230 hp N/A. But it can take a lot of boost, nitrous, whatever.
I forget the weight. But it has a lot to do with the transmission it is coupled to. The 4EAT they were all coupled to is a ton of lead. When paired with a nice manual 5 speed (and get rid of the torque converter, etc), it's a quick drop of nearly 200 lb.

@SVreX, bummer but I understand.
@ Track mouse:
I think it's around 230 hp. A complete EJ22 weighs just under 200 lbs and since the EG33 is an EJ22 with two more pistons I would guess it weighs around 250 lbs.

I think the long block weighs about 250 lbs, IIRC.

But but but, why take a beautiful SVX off the road?
I have a bad case of the 'there is still no SVX in my driveway' whines. Not for lack of trying, just the $$ and car availability never seem to coincide.

Don't forget you can find the H6 in Outback's too.
In reply to NGTD:
See, that's why I asked. I live in ski country. All these ppl out here in central Oregon drive subies or audis. While the imprezas get snatched up by high school kids, the soccer moms that blow stop signs because they were updating their FB page usually drive the h6 outbacks. You see where I'm going with this...
Plus, if I'm going through the hassle of stuffing an engine in my Toyota Celica, i'd best make it a powerful one. (Whoops, did I just let that slip...)
this happens to be my favorite EG33 noise, although to be fair for the cost of what they did to this engine you could boost an EJ25 to China and back.

to my ears though, all subaru 6's sound wonderful, including the more recent stuff like this EZ30R:

mmmmf. i daydream about what a fun daily my 2.5RS would be with a nice, mild EZ30 swap (intake, exhaust, tune, maybe some headers) but i'm too much of a Bob Costas to think about attempting the wiring nightmare that it would be right now.
Speaking of wiring... What's the minimum wiring needed to run this engine??? I know a few engine swaps out there only need four to run, 8 to run great.

Toyota Celica might be a bad choice.
Flat 6's are WIIIDE. I think it's 35" between the frame rails (and then you still need to strategically place holes in the frame remove the bolts holding the valve covers).
Better check your frame rail width before you get too excited.
