Anybody have any good places to recommend to get a good low mileage (verifiable) JDM motor? Thinking of Honda motors specifically in this instance. Somewhere on the East Coast, near VA, that is not some shop thrown together by some flat-brimmed-hat-wearing thugsters would be nice.
Hmm, NAD auto in Norcross GA has always be amazing to me. I get to see the motor run in the front clip before I buy it. They may have reasonable shipping as well if you want just a motor.
wrong coast, but trusted.

So, Bonespec, do you work for tiger japanese auto in Toronto? I seem to recall that one or more of our regulars here had some serious issues with getting ripped off by tiger japanese auto in Toronto. Do we need to pull the thread up? There are probably multiple threads, like http://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/grm/jdm-engine-rip-off/18870/page1/

and I'm sure more. So, what exactly is "trusted?" Trusted to rip you off sideways?
In reply to Dr. Hess:
So you're saying I shouldn't go with JDM Tiger?

Look up JDM Midwest Motor Depot. They're in Cincinnati but do a TON of engine importing.
Tiger Jdm has about 5 different names in an effort to lay low when the new scandal comes up. Avoid.
NAD is good stuff. As is Nagasaki.

yep i personally have been screwed over by tigar japanese in toronto. i got a 4agze that i was told was in good condition, was suppost to have ecu and full harness. it showed up looking like it had been dropped out of a truck... multiple times. every edge that could have been hit on something had been causing broken parts, no ecu, harness was cut in multiple spots, and best part was it showed super low compression... on 3 of 4 cylinder.
luckily i got a full refund but i had to eat the return shipping cost... do not do tiger japanese in toronto
I will join the chorus to suggest that Tiger JDM is a KNOWN rip-off artist and should be avoided at all costs.
Eric JDM in Chicago, however, has reasonable prices and great service. I've yet to hear of anyone ending up unhappy ordering from them. They would be my recommendation.
Jspecauto?
They're local to Richmond, VA. At Staples Mill and Parham. I have never dealt with them but they check the local box. If you buy from them would you let me know how it goes?
Thanks guys! This whole idea is just a project in my head at the moment, so we'll see how it goes. I appreciate the input!

I see Nagasaki's website changed.
JEI (japanese engine import) is in VA. I have never dealt with them but worth looking into, they have been around a couple years.

I have a JDM B16 for sale with Mugen clutch LSD and all the parts to swap into an 88-91 CRX/Civic....located in southern Wisconsin...
I just need a decent S13 rolling chassis.
That'll surely fit whatever it is that OP is asking about a motor for, right?
I'm looking specifically for a B20 for my CR-V.
Unless you buy a clip that includes the odometer, it's a miles unknown engine. I've had a few "low miles JDM engines" that had definitely seen some miles, one even had oversized bearings in it. I'd sooner buy from a local yard or rebuild what I have, assuming it doesn't have a hole in the side of it.

Here is an actual picture of Tiger Japanese's warehouse.
Personally, I wouldn't buy an engine from a place that stores them like that.

Word of warning, the owner is awesome to deal with, but if you cross/attempt to screw him, he will publicly embarass you. Most people I know here in this area go to Cincy.
No offense but there is no miracle used engine supplier... you buy used... you get used...
Buy the lowest cost engine that isn't destroyed, and is complete... and rebuild it.

Ya, it must be really tough to get one off the bottom level.
Not looking for a miracle, just a reputable company that tries to not sell junk. I might just be better off waiting for a wrecked CR-V with low miles.
Tiger Japanese is a miracle engine supplier.
It's a miracle if one of their engines runs.

More a case of fuel rails, etc being mashed up when they're pulled apart.
I've been to better run engine suppliers. I bought my SR20DET Bluebird engine from Engineland in Montreal instead.
A nice bonus, their engines weren't pressure-washed, so the spark plug holes weren't full of water and rust.
And the turbo wasn't seized.
