It's just an idea, but I'm thinking I'd like some actual rims for my DD. I've got the Steel+ Plastic covers that were standard, but after a few years they're in bad shape.
Would you trust rims from a junkyard?

most yards here have a 30day guarentee.... more than enough time to test them to make sure they are true
I've never had a problem with any rim I have bought from the boneyard. But then again, I inspect them before forking over any cash.

yeah, I have bought several sets of wheels at the JY. The Aspire even ran on Junkyard tires...(shh, don't tell anyone)
...cause you know my concern: I get them home and the set I buy wasn't made from steel but, say, brittle aluminum.
Glad to see some good news. At least the car's popular.
what would be wrong with a wheel on a car that is in the junkyard because of a blown motor or trans? as long as the guy operating the loader didn't do anything dramatic with the car when moving it around, i can't see what the problem would be. i currently have 2 sets of junkyard sourced Trans Am GTA wheels out in the garage, and they are all straight and true.

what's wrong with aluminum? My fiat is sitting on aluminum rims that are over 30 years old

if you can't tell that the rim you bought is aluminum vs steel, then you might just need to find a new hobby.
I've run plenty of junkyard wheels. Had a few that were out of round. Had some steel ones with some scaling on the bead surface and would leak. Cleaned up the bead area and they worked great.
As Novaderrik pointed out, if it was junked for a dead motor/trans odds are better of having good wheels than one in a collision. But even then one that was wrecked could still have a couple good ones on it.

Last time I grabbed a wheel and tire at the junkyard it was $40. A steel 15" at that.

Ouch, around here steelies are $6 and alloys $20.
Edit: that's without tires, tires are $14.99 regardless of size.
