I was watching some YouTube last night of some Road-Rally and it occurred to me who paid for damage to property. Things like buildings fences stone walls lights signs that I see these cars crashing in to.
The car owner? Sanctioning body? Club?

US taxpayers. Oh, you're talking about Finland. Same answer.
you know I'm kidding. But it genuinely wouldn't surprise me one iota. I've often wondered the same thing.
A claim would likely be filed against the driver. So the driver's insurance co. But if ins policy doesn't cover racing then the driver themselves would be liable for property damage and street racing ticket. Check with the organizer if their ins covers it, but I doubt it just because of costs.
I saw one case where a car hit a rock and went down a hill. The rock looked to have punched the fuel tank and caught fire. Where it stopped there was also a second car parked. The second car also burned to the ground as did a good bit of property. I wonder how that got sorted out.

That's what I was wondering. If you're on a TSD road rally you should not be hooning.
In the UK event insurance would pay in theory, you had to have specific 3rd party competition insurance to cover you on the public highway whilst competing, normally the organisers would have a blanket policy, and you signed up for it in the event paperwork and paid a small premium for it.
Thankfully the only interaction with roadside furniture I had only damaged the car, not the furniture
