Just watched the new Roadkill extra on MotorTrend. Someone is the Q & A asked Freiberger about every coming to the Challenge. He said he came once is $2002 of $2003 to watch--long story short--won't come due to the time involved building a competitive car. Must have been $2002, because I was at the $2003 and I don't remember seeing him walking around.

Doesn't matter, if he was too scared to compete back in 2002 no way he's gonna show up for $2017
Yeah, that sounds about right.
They don't do long term builds, especially when limited to $2xxx in change.
Of course they'll build crap for LeMons, but that is also a bit more local to them and the money limit is a bit, um, flexible.
Personally I'd find it entertaining if they would run some of their junk and some of their nicer cars against the Challengers as part of an exhibition. I think it would make a great episode of Roadkill.

Agreed. Id love to see the elky or crusher get its ass kicked in the drags by a Nelson car.
Or one of my cars. I plan to be in the ass kicking drag times shortly. I guess a top 4 time already is, but not good enough for me
It was the July or August 2003 issue of Hotrod. I poured over it for months. That's how I found GRM.
Honestly with their willingness to crossover with GMG and MCM, doing a roadkill episode where challenge cars race roadkill cars at roadkill nights would be doable.

What? They've got a stretched C3 frame and a 56 Buick body and they couldn't make Challenge budget? I call BS!

Pretty sure the frame broke in half and the body fell off on the trailer ride to LA.
They could do it, for sure. I'd think they'd have a harder time with the autocross... What I'd like to see is Leno and his crew bring something to the challenge!
I could see Leno and crew building a Shogun like car. He loves those things.
Sounds like Gauntlet throwing Time....But Mr Leno must shoe his ride,I say that because Ringer drivers, with a shop that "Capable" would be tough as would most other teams with talent and money and a driver, I have no money some talent and am an average driver, but If I can get a car to the Challenge I would be Stoked to see people like that show up. I have some Friends at Car Craft, I could Insult them once more...Er; "Challenge Them"
I personally would rather see Hammond, May, and Clarkson enter. I love the new GT show myself!

Raodkill have raced their junk against a stock Kia Rio (and lost) with Motor Trend (which granted is ridiculously easy compared to the Challenge given that all those decisions fall under one 'roof' as it were), so I don't think they're above getting their asses whooped by anything and everything if it's in the right spirit. I for one don't respond well to the idea of 'challenging' people to things unless it's very tongue in cheek, as Roadkill has never been about winning anything other than laughs.
I think it would be great fun to see them run something as an exhibition entrant.

That made me think. I like their show but I'm not so sure I'd like to meet them in person.

It's always weird to me to see how their money is spent. Last episode they had a $400 fuel pump hooked to the cheapest Chinese fuel cell they could find. They're not above putting 10k+ in go fast engine bits into a car that's more rust than metal.
I paid to watch their stuff though, so they must be doing something right.
In reply to Cactus :
I know zombie thread, but the cheapest chinese aluminum fuel cells are very nice and i have 4 of them. 2 in cars, one on my test stand and one just because. I throw out the foam, add a rollover valve and good to go race. I don't trust the foam. They've always come clean inside with no shavings.
also since this was posted nelson whooped general mayhem with bugzilla so...
