The Capri project is still ongoing. I am "restoring" my 1977 Capri, former SCCA Improved Touring car to vintage race.
The next big step is paint and body, but before I do that I'd like to get a knowledgeable opinion about about the current roll cage. I'd like to add some bars that were not allowed for Improved Toruing to further stiffen the hatchback, but someone suggested that the existing cage and welds might not satisfy a tech inspection.
Above all, I want a safe roll cage.
The Capri is immobile (engine out, etc). If anyone near me has a background in tech inspection would be willing to stop by the Shop of Good Intentions and render their opinion on my current roll cage, I would be very grateful. I'd be happy to treat them to lunch, pay for their gas and time, etc.
As far as what sanctioning organization I plan to race under, it would most likely be VDCA and HSR.
Any input is appreciated!
SCCA usually schedules early season tech sessions so everybody doesn't show up at the first event looking for an annual tech. Check with your local SCCA chapter.
David farmer in concord is the only guy I'd trust around here.

Thanks tr8todd, I just sent a message to the tech guy listed on the SCCA-CCR website.

Do you have his contact info?
(704) 699-2839
That's the number i have for him. Tell him Michael Crawford sent you.
Most SCCA regions typically has 'traveling' techs for this reason. You typically pay the tech guy for his mileage in traveling to you and he checks things out. Alternatively, you can sometimes go to them - which is what I did with my Spec Miata.
Try Steven Rankins at 42Autosport just over the border in SC - Rock Hill maybe?
42 is in Concord now. Church Street
recommend both/either Rankins or Farmer …both good guys
Thank you for the leads everyone.
I have also received a reply from a SVRA member with some recommendations.
