Upon further consideration, the Fiat won't make the '09 Challenge.....however it should make 2010.
This year instead is leaning towards an early British rendition with a touch of Dearborn muscle.
And it seems I have rustled up some help this year as long as they get to drive also.
38 days and counting....
How about a Yamaha Genesis motor? 105HP, 750cc, 5-valves per cylinder, angled almost flat with downdraft carbs. Unusual for a bike engine, and considering you can get decent FZ/FZR750's for within $1000 all day, it wouldn't be hard to find a donor bike and then part off all the pricey body plastics.
got the motor started and test run today, now I need to make the trans adaptor plate and stick it in...

I'd avoid bike engines for a production-based car—especially if you want to autocross it later. It automatically puts you in B or A mod, vs E/D mod. We were Berkeley'd on that when we built the Berkeley.
Not to hijack, but what class would Andy Nelson's bug run in?
