Came across this Mazda Rx-4 Wagon on the way home from work - had to grab my camera right away. Its the rotary powered version of the Mazda 808. The sedans and coupes had different tail lights than the 808s but the wagon did not. This one seemed to be in fantastic shape. The big bumpers seem to peg it as a 1974 model. I was amazed by it being so origional - even the stock steel wheels.
A couple pictures (bigger sizes here - http://www.flickr.com/photos/daveseven/3854349010/ )
I have had my eyes out for one of those for a while now, nice find
First appearance of the 13B motor was in the RX-4. A piece of history there.
i would do awful, unspeakable things to get that car.
Back in the day when I was racing the RX3, I bought a basket case RX4 station wagon purely to get the 4spd, radiator and oil cooler. I sent the car to the crusher after stripping off the needed parts.
I think that Lee Graser got the 13B "truck port" motor out of the chassis. '74 while an ugly year for bumpers was THE year for housings due to the enlarged ports.
I have to correct one thing that you posted. 808 was the RX3(12A) based car. I am not aware of any comparable piston version of the RX4.
I love the plug-in core heater :)
I think Mazdax605 mentioned to me he was looking for one of these so he could share in the rotary experience with his kids... Hell, I'd buy it if I had someplace to put it over the winter.
Ah you are quite right about the 808/Rx-3 thing. Thanks for the correction.
I knew a guy who hit a pole in one of those. The keys went through his knee.
