I am a Subaru guy. Don't traditionally care for Fords much. I like the Focus RS........a lot. When I was down at the Rolex I rented a Mustang Ecoboost. Had an auto but overall a damn nice place to be. I was really surprised! I wouldn't give up my WRX for it but I could sure live with it and I can't say that about too many cars. They had an RS at the Ford stand there. Really nice. Evo is gone () but we have the STi/WRX, Golf R, Civic R (coming) and Focus RS. I'd say the world is a better place with them in it. Competition is good. Bring it on Ford, you are on a roll. To the OP, let us know how you do when your RS comes in. I think it's really cool. No hate here.

The dealerships in this area are all asking for $2-5K over sticker, and they're only allocated between 2 and 4 for the year. I might just have to wait until the 17's come out and the hype dies down. In the meantime, there's this cute little Fiesta ST I've got my eye on...

Good news! There's a new Ford in my garage.

Bad news; it's not the one I've been dreaming about. But it will hold me over until the dealers stop gouging anyone who wants an RS.

Can't see the pic. What did you get?

Sorry - fixed the pic. It's a Fiesta ST that I picked up cheap (17.5K); only 14K miles on it and in perfect condition. My new plan is to hang on to it until the '17s come out, and hopefully the dealers will have more allocations and less gouging will occur.

Recaros? Let me know when you're ready to get rid of it.

No Recaros - base seats. Here's a better picture now that I have daylight:

I'll add more as soon as Photobucket cooperates again.

The RS pricing is a little silly, I imagine the markups will go away pretty quickly. Nice move in the meantime!

Focus RS needs a 5 cylinder...a Volvo 5 cylinder...

Here's a rear view:

A couple of other advantages of waiting a year; it will give Ford a chance to work out any first-year bugs and perhaps to expand the color palette.

It's hard to complain about 350 hp.

But the first year is usually the best year and then the cars get watered down after that.

Most recent example I can think of is the FRS/BRZ, first year they had a torque curve that was fun and encouraged spirited driving. But people complained about the hole in the middle, so they market-focused it to death and now it is bland like a Camry.

If you think this is just sour grapes, I liken it to driving a series/parallel hybrid. You start to get fascinated by the way it works, you get amused by how far you can drive before the gas engine has to kick in, how much regeneration you can get when slowing down. It's exactly like that, except you feel the torque hole as a negative influence, so you modify your driving so you don't get into that range, and you get a good feeling when you can drive it so you are always over the bubble.

THAT is why I say bland like Camry. It's not involving. It doesn't give you a happy feeling when you see immediate positive results.

so there's good and bad for waiting ... they can work out the bugs that can't be found prior to the general public doing stuff that can't be anticipated and they also might water it down

so good and bad for waiting ...

I'll be waiting for the Cruze hatch ... hoping that it will be available with the eco 6 option ... AND hoping some of the teething problems will have been taken care of

I don't know, nothing has needed repair.

OP did not mention a warranty in his post so I did not concern myself with that. I just threw out an option.

I've owned a high-strung Porsche turbo and tried to use it as a DD. Never again. I'm also not a fan of 911's, period. I respect them, but they don't do anything for me as I just see them as engineering limited by nostalgia. If it works for you, great, awesome. I'm having a child and I need a reliable DD that can hold a baby seat and haul the occasional grocery. If its fun to drive and easy to park and gets decent gas mileage, even better. The fact that it isn't a Subaru or German is just more sprinkles on the top of that cupcake.

You are not the OP that my post was speaking too, none of that was in the thread's original post.
