Seems like a dumb question, I know.
Wife's truck exhaust was "barely" touching a frame rail and vibrating. Access to the hangars to bend them is difficult, and basically it's "too high" not too low so replacing the rubber hanger parts won't solve the problem. so I took an old BMW exhaust hangar (the kind of thin ones where the rubber is like 1cm thick) and cut it and basically wedged it between the exhaust and the frame rail. It stopped the vibration.
I know hangers attach to the arms that come off the exhaust, but those probably aren't quite as hot as the pipe itself. Is there any danger of the rubber hanger melting or catching on fire when directly contacting the pipe itself? I would hope they have higher heat tolerance than that, but what do I know, lol....
note that this is a short-term fix for a few weeks until I can get the truck up and pull off the exhaust and bend it a bit. But I will be doing a long tow in the meantime so the exhaust will be getting to a pretty hot temp..
