On page 139 of the December issue there is a picture of a power tool used to remove pickup rubber. What kind of tool is that? I got a hugh amount last weekend at NJMP and would like to remove before my next DE.

What is it w/ NJMP and OPR?
The first time I was at Thunderbolt I must have gathered literally a couple pounds of rubber on the Star Specs I use to drive to and from and for the first couple learning sessions. I put my RA1s on and scraped between sessions for hours. Uggh.
Try this...
Tire grinder disc

The pic in the magazine was taken at the SCCA autoX championship.

I don't cotton to anything that limits me to less than 2 minutes of driving in an 8hr day. Shorten it by 2 minutes and you don't even need a car!

I don't believe I've seen a power tool warning quite that stern:
"NOTE: Use extreme caution - serious injury can result from the use of discs. When powered by a buffer, these discs can cut your arm or leg off."

Yeah the warnings do kinda get your attention...
I suspect there may be at least one dead customer that made the warnings appear.
I would not even think of putting that near a tire!!

If a set of Hoosier A6s is a thousand bucks and good for 80 runs, then a warm-up lap is $12!
Last time I did this I used a heat gun and a metal putty knife, but now my heat gone has gone missing.

I had a ton of pickup, we were the first to run NJMP after Sandy and I guess between a green track and the normal abrasion of NJMP there was a lot of rubber. I did buy a Porter Cable oscillating multi-tool Model PCE605 and used the flexible scraper that came with it and it worked as I hoped. They have a rigid scraper which is a little wider and I think I'll try one of them next.
