That never gets old. axisofoversteer.com had a whole series of those up for a while. I think I've probably seen that about 20x and I'm mesmerized every time.

Conclusive proof that anything with rear swing axles (911s exempted) will roll over when provoked. Renault R8s, NSUs,Simca 1300s and all the aircooled Vdubs make poor track rats, I guess. At least twice in this video, people flew out of the cars without seatbelts. Pretty amazing stuff.

I guess that explains where all the fiat 850s went, a few german track days and there wouldnt be any left. lol

I blame the "curb" right at the exit of that corner, a smoother transition to the grass would have kept a lot of those from going over.

OH, and WOW no one wore seat belts in 1970, and drove the Ring with their grocieries.

So, what did you do today?

Me? Oh, well I tried to kill my girlfriend....

Wow.

Several things.

People bemoan modern safety standards, but I'd have really wished for anti burst locks, collapsible steering column and side air bags in a lot of those instances. ABS and stability control could have helped too.

What was the car at 5:10?

Remember to just ride it out if you go off. People who didn't try to save it after they were off tended to be OK, it was those who fought it that rolled.

It wasn't just swing axle cars that rolled.

I really hope everyone survived that.

Most of those were open lapping days, I really felt for the guy in a convertible VW bug with his family in there, I was holding my breath, luckily that one didn't go over!

I've taken my family round the ring, 4 up and I drove the whole time within my sight lines. I could have stopped at any point with no issue. Now after the family got out and I had a passenger who knew the track intimately, then it was a different matter.

So you saying a ACWV is not a good track car?....Some of us here think FWD cars make for poor track rats,...hmm what about that?

That's just insane! The shot of a convertible bug fishtailing all over the place with two guys and two women inside had me pulling my hair out!

You got me all excited thinking that I'd see a car like my own being driven in anger, but I don't think that's a Sonett, unless it was heavily modified.

I don't know what that car is at 5:10, but I realllly like the look.

Did anyone else notice how often the doors flew open? Nuts

scary... no seat belts, crap in the car... and the vw cabriolet with 4 people in it... Absolutly amazing.

And yes, I agree.. those few who were not afraid of the grass came out of that best

Accuracy alert: Porsche 911s do not have swing axles. Neither do late model aircooled VWs.

I've seen other collections from there, but not that one. Yeah, in 1970 you wouldn't have thought seat belts would have been such a rarity.

And this proves my adage - you just never know how much E36 M3 you have in your car until you put it on its roof!

I like the way the spectators hop out on the track as the car is still moving. It's almost Darwinian!

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea that the entire event is the antithesis of modern nannyism.

(Me circa 1980 two tiers up - Leaning tower of Pisa, speaking to attendant) "I notice that you don't have any safety barriers", attendant: "Who would be stupid enough to walk off the edge?"

You're a SAAB guy and would know, I'm going with Sonett door handles and tail lights anyway. The rest of the car? Well it is Europe in the 70s, who the heck knows what it is.
