Clean it well, seal it with a coating. You can practice your metal forming to make a patch to keep new stuff out until you get your welding rig. Jb weld the patch in place until you are ready and heat it with a propane torch to get it off when your are ready.

I suggest doing an oil spray around anywhere your aren't cleaning and adding a coating. The oil will slow or stop oxidation.

I like to mix petroleum jelly, baby oil, and candle paraffin, heat until liquid then spray. Even just mineral oil/ baby oil will help, just spray it when the car is dry as possible and clean of salt
