With a Hemi. What do I need to know? Are they pricey? Failure prone? Looking for something a bit less harsh that my '13 JKU Rubi for long road trips.

Pretty much a Grand Cherokee under the skin as I recall. Look into WK reliability and use it as a guide. I've never really heard bad things per se, but just never heard much. I've seen some hemi versions come up lately at what seemed to be good prices.
we're looking at a 3rd row vehicle in the next 6 months or so and I looked at the commander... I dig how they look but I keep having issues with the thought when I compare them to a suburban... around here (houston) it seems the same money buys a lot more truck, MPG is similar and power edges over to the jeep... but towing seems to goto the suburban still...
then I remember that I don't really need to tow anything and then look at what you can get in a mopar caravan at the same price...
I almost bought one a year or so ago. My research told me:
avoid the two smaller engines. The 5.7 is the only one you want from a reliably standpoint.
Get Quadra-Drive, it’ll out-wheel most anything else, save another Commander or WJ with QD.
Fuel economy will suck, cuz it’s a Jeep.
In reply to stanger_missle :
I think it's a Grand Cherokee with an extra row in the back, plus the requisite length.
Isn't the Commander just a Jeepified Durango?
It probably should have been, but it isn't. It's a slightly enlarged Grand Cherokee. Enlarged enough to significantly differentiate it? Nope. Probably why they didn't stick around.
FWIW, I also looked at the Kia Borrego quite a bit at the time. It was large, had a third row, a V8 and went out of production pretty quickly. Prices are reasonable because people don't know what they are, and if you can get past the bland looks, you get typical Kia reliability and build quality.
If you get one make sure to throughly test the 4x4 system. See here: https://jalopnik.com/jeep-owners-say-a-recall-ruined-their-4wd-chrysler-say-1573426014
A quick look on the Jeep forums indicate this is still a problem with no real fix
