This story comes from all the way back in 1997. So we had to march back to our archives, pick out the magazine, and then dig out the scanner.

Also, in 1993 They had a PPHC car.
We had a poster of that car on the run when I was at the Hyundai dealer.

After Hyundai US was done with that car it came to Canada and Antoine Lestage cut his teeth in that car. It lived on for a while up here being maintained by John Buffum - Libra Racing.
Long live the short lived S coupe!

Even earlier than this I remember they put a Hyundai Scoupe into the Pikes Peak festivities, don't know much about it though.

YOU MEAN THIS?
Rhys's dad Rod. The Millen family goes way back with the Korean car maker.

Yep, that's the one! Didn't reallize it was Rod Millen, no wonder it looks like the driver knew what he was doing.
I saw the Hyundai factory cars on an open transporter back in maybe....2000? I geeked out hard. They were very cool.
Hyundai was very aggressive in the late 80's and well into the 90's. They even sponsored me.
They only just left Global Rally Cross a few years ago.
Much of those Hyundais were Mitsubishi under the valve cover. With Cossie parts for the rest of the drivetrain. Buffum would come into our the Mitsu dealership where I worked to buy parts.
There was a Genesis running Rally America 4 or 5 years ago. IIRC it was a factory-backed car, though I forget who was driving. It was actually on the official STPR t-shirts one year. No idea what happened to it, though.

I've got a signed poster from that. A friend of mine was on the Andretti team for a while. He caught Rhys and asked him to sign a poster for "one of my Hyundai humping friends". So it signed: "To Bob: Keep humping those Hyundai's"
My most treasured item in the garage.
