I have a leaking shock on my RX-8. Rock auto has Bilsteins at a good price. I have Konis on my Miata and like them. I am not interested in lowering the car as it is my winter car. I am asking for opinions, what have you tried and what have you liked?
The Konis are awesome for street, auto-x, HPDE, but probably not going to work well on an all-out race setup without a revalve. I have them on the girlfriend's 2006 RX-8 and they're great. Only negative is the rears need to be removed to adjust damping. Ideally, I'd set them softer for commuting and stiffer for auto-x or track use, but since it's a pain, I just leave them pretty stiff.
Another vote for Koni yellows.
I've just put Ohlins on my RX8. Highly recommended so far if they're in your budget.
Konis are the best on the low end.
Could be wrong but I believe there is a difference between the S1 (04-08) and the S2 (09-11) suspensions.
The R3 bilstiens are quite a fantastic for something you still drive on the road, though if its just a track day car I believe they all take the same coilovers and that would be the way I go.
I had Bilstien HDs paired with Racing Beat springs on my S1 and loved them.
Hear to give a plus 1 on he bilsteins....
I have used both Koni yellows and Bilstein sports and say it's a pick-em, really. They're both excellent performance shocks.
Thanks for the advice. I have ordered the Bilsteins, Rock Auto has a great price on them , $430 including shipping.
I have the Bilsteins installed and I like them.
